With my current project, I am at the stage of naming the product for use in FRC teams, but am not sure what the rules are for using ‘FRC’ in the name itself. It will be online and released on the app store, so it will be out in the public.
Does anyone know the rules/guidelines to using the FRC name? Or what are the limitations if you do use it?
That said, using FRC in a product name is probably not going to fly. It’s trademarked, and while FIRST has branding guidelines permitting fair use for teams, I don’t think that would extend to for-profit sales.
First “FRC” is no longer an official term. “First Robotics Competition” is the name for it.
Your concerns may be addressed in a “Branding” document on the FIRST site. This will describe LOGO usage but may also touch on naming. Par attention to what is Trade Marked ™, Registered ®, or Service Marked(SM). Normally when using words or phrases with a mark; you need to use them as you find them and include the mark. Also, rightly refer to the owner of the mark.
