Using laser at field calibration

Is it legal to bring a laser to field calibration? Not used in any way that could harm anyone / any team

As long as it’s a Class 1 laser, you should be OK. I’m assuming that you’re using a measuring laser to check the field dimensions/level.

The one thing I’d be cautious of is that the field is likely to be crowded, so you may not get good measures.

7028 used this laser measure for field calibration and pre-match robot placement on Curie and Einstein this year without problems. The kids cleared it with the FTAs before use just in case. It is labeled as a class 2 laser.

I think it depends on the strength of it. If it’s a relatively low level that can still get the job done, there shouldn’t be a ton of issues. If it’s anything serious or over that threshold, I wouldn’t risk it. As someone else here said, the amount of people on the field can mess up any measures or calibrations you need.

It’s kind of up to your team, but if you don’t know for sure, it’s probably safer to not bring it then risk being flagged or disqualified.
