Has anyone come up with ideas on how to use these fancy shooters we all built this year for offseason activities, like delivering candy or tshirts?
One of the team members threw out the idea of using a hamster ball as a delivery vessel. I don’t know how that will work given our 1.5" compression, but it is something to test. Looking for ideas.
We did have a lot of fun the other night just shooting the basketballs up in the air for the little kids to catch and then roll back to the robot. Maybe that will be the extent of having fun with the robot when out in the community.
We found that little kids LOVE to catch the basketballs when a robot shoots it to them. Last weekend 2470 was at The Works (with 1816 and 3081) we had the kids load and catch basketballs from our robot, 3081 had kids play with kinect using last year’s robot and 1816 had kids play with inner tubes using last year’s robot.
If you are able to combine Kinect and shooting the basketballs into one program the kids should be pretty entertained!
You may be able to shoot the 2009 Lunacy “Orbit Balls”. They could be stuffed with a shirt or something else that won’t fall out in flight. They are 9" in diameter though vs. the 8" balls from this year.
Also, I thought we didn’t speak of Lunacy anymore.
My suggestion would be to put a ring of duct tape around a rolled-up shirt. Also, a thing that always gets a reaction is a confetti cannon. It takes a lot of clean-up, but if you put a bunch of confetti into a hollow styrofoam ball, the styrofoam breaks away and sprays confetti everywhere.
We have used our practice bot at some local events to raise awareness of the team within the community, while raising money for Championships. We use it to shoot stuffed Angry Birds! The kids love it! They are about the same size as the RR basketballs, but don’t compress well, so only shoot about 10 feet. Our plans are to take leftover basketballs and paint them like Angry Birds for post-season events and letting kids see if they can aim the shooter to shoot boxes with pigs on them!
