We (surprisingly) picked up two of the IMUs available in FIRST Choice this round. Any advice on supplemental products we will need in order to make this product plug in to the FRC ecosystem? Special cables (ADIS1644X/FLEX)? Evaluation boards? Thanks in advance for any advice.
The board in FIRST Choice plugs right into the MXP port, no cables or additional boards required. Check out Analog Devices’ wiki page for more info on programming it: https://wiki.analog.com/first/adis16448_imu_frc
The ADIS16448 is a great IMU. The wiki page linked above is a good resource for it. You can also bypass the RoboRIO and connect directly to it with a breakout board or just some .1" wires.
Unfortunately, https://frc-qa.firstinspires.org/qa/77 has made using more than one of these on a robot a thing of the past.
Let me know if you guys run into any issues using the IMU. We’re starting to release the 2020 libraries for the ADIS16448 (ADIS16470 is already done) and we’re working on updating the wiki page linked above.
I had some students express interest in trying to integrate the ADIS16448. Does anyone know what Andymark does with the excess first choice inventory? I wish we would have thought of it earlier, but we are 50 points short of being able to get one in the open ordering period.
Excess inventory rolls over to the next year, or at least it does for the ADI donations.
I should also add, we’re encouraging teams to consider the ADIS16470 IMU as it is a newer generation IMU with more features. I think its also fewer points as well, so it might be within the points you have leftover.
Thanks for that heads up! We had exactly the amount needed for the ADIS16470. We are going to give it a shot!
