We always design our bumpers to be 0.5" below the max bumper height (the same way we cut down at least 0.5" in each dimension from the max frame size). Part of this is for the exact reason you described.
We are considering an 8 wheel drive with 6" pneumatic wheels. Is it possible to create a 3/16" center drop for the middle two wheels if we are using the VEX Versa clamping bearing blocks?
The Vex VersaBlocks give 1/16" of offset from the center of the tube. So with the normal configuration with the outside ones up and the center ones down you get 1/8" of drop. If you use pneumatic wheel you would be able to inflate the center ones to a higher pressure, increasing the effective OD and giving yourself a bit more center drop.
