Tonight my team thought we would have a little fun and try out our new GoPro camera!
Excellent. I’m really looking forward to “robot-reveal” season this year because of the challenges the game presents. Seeing teams post their solutions to the challenge of climbing (human-assisted prototype or not) is really awesome, and congratulations! The speed at which you climbed is also pretty great! Best of luck this season, I can only imagine things will get even more exciting!

Prove it’s legit.
Are those .125" steel hooks? What’d you have designed for the “spring” as they pass over the bar, or is it just deformation of the metal itself? If the sound in the background and my ear is correct, it sounds like you’re running this on a pneumatic system - what sized bore and stroke are you using? If I took a guess, based off the math we did, you’re using somewhere between a 25-30" stroke, 1.25 - 1.5" bore cylinder to climb. Are the stages human controlled or is the climb largely autonomous?
All in all, great video!
PS - I like the mini pyramid in the background. Good testing ground?
This is awesome. We have a mini pvc pyramid as well.
Glad to see someone is going up the corner.
Congratulations on achieving this incredible feat. You just made me all the more fearful of the competition at the Wisconsin Regional this year.
I like how the title on your team website says: “Raising The Bar And Climbing Higher”
Awesome video.
As another 1732’s Strategy Team’s mentor said, “this does not surprise me at all.” We are expecting another top notch robot from 2481. Hopefully, you guys make the Championship this year.
I’m looking forward to seeing it at Wisconsin!
I’m curious as to the solution to traversing the corner gussets.
Wow! This is the first climbing video that I’ve been impressed with. I really like the spring loaded hooks. Are you using pneumatics or something like a really fast lead screw?
In any case, really cool.
Ours is very similar, at least I think so. I’ll try and have a vid up later this week. We just got our key parts today (after weeks of backorder)
Good luck, can’t wait for the reveal to confirm my suspicions.
I’ve also got my suspicions as to how this works. Let’s just say I’ve seen some similar ideas over the course of the season Can’t wait to see it in WI.
Wow! that’s awesome
Its almost scary how choose this system is to ours so if the rest is close, I haves pretty good idea about it…think Dean Kamen. (at least, for our solution he applies)
Are you focusing on only climbing, or can you score disks as well?
Absolutely…Phenomenal…Period
Very cool, its one of those ideas that makes you go, “well duh!”
Also, thanks for the comments, guys!
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at Wisconsin (as well as Crossroads), again, as well. We are sure that it’s going to be just as competitive, if not more-so, than ever with the number of great teams competing this year.
Good luck to everybody and we will have a couple follow-up videos potentially planned (time and resource depending) leading up to a bigger reveal closer to bag day.
Couple things to answer some of the questions/comments:
1 - yes, this is a legit climb
2 - yes, those are pneumatics you hear…but that’s not all you hear
3 - there is more to our robot than meets the eye…with the video
So cynical
Given that this was probably a design mulled over by many, I’m gonna go with legit. Well done!
What can I say? I’m a guy of proof. That, and i was hoping questioning the mechanism’s legitimacy would lead to another video (which it did, looking at OP’s post above).
This is gonna be one awesome reveal. And I feel OP is going to have a lot of fun slowly releasing specific details and watching us go crazy over them trying to figure them out.
