Congratulations to all the playoff teams from each regional and the winning allinaces. From what I have read & heard, there are many incredible / very impressive robots/teams out there.

We have very good videos of almost every match from the NASA AMES regional. I would REALLY, REALLY love to get videos of the other regionals so our kids can see what other teams have built & can do. It’s our FIRST year, so other than our regional - our kids have never seen other teams or robots.

We would love to trade videos or just get copies of yours (I’ll pay any tape/shipping cost.) If you are interested or know of a way we can get videos of the qualifying & elimination matches at other regionals please let me know. We would really appreciate it.

(I guess it’s kind of like FIRST withdrawal, I don’t know if we can wait another 4 weeks without watching some matches since we aren’t going to any other regionals - please help us!)

We look forward to meeting everyone in Florida.

I read on this board a few weeks ago that other teams were bringing VCR’s to the competitions, and taping the FIRST Video Feed. I thought “GREAT”, so I bring a VCR and 4 hours of tape to the New Jersey Regional.
On Thursday, I talk to the lone Audio/Video guy at the booth and ask him where I could plug in. He’s never heard of anybody doing it. Sorry, can’t help you.

Not being disappointed, and not satisfied with that answer at all, I go back early Friday morning. I see the same guy there. I ask him again the exact same question, and he points to a small table and says the Press feeds are right there.

Saturday, I return and plug right in. There was another guy trying to get his VCR to work. (Some VCR’s require you put them in to LINE mode when you come off a RCA cable feed, as we were) So I help him out setting it up. He wanted to test it so we record a few minutes of it and play it back by plugging the little TV they had there into his VCR. It works great, until the guy asks where the sound was. Good question, so we ask the Engineer. He runs out, tests a few cables with a signal meter. There all Dead. He runs a new cable, says it’s fine. We still can’t hear anything on the TV. He came over, tested the feed and said it was fine.

After the competition, I take the tapes back to my Hotel room and play them back. No audio. Not even an annoying hum. Four hours of complete silence.

Now I’m just a team member, but CNN was supposed to have been there Friday and Saturday. How much you wanna bet there gonna run footage without sound?

I just wish I had written down the name of Company that was doing the A/V. I know they were based out of Randolf, MA. (up the street from me)

So a word of advice. If you use a feed from someone else, check that it works. I’m just debating whether I should write a letter to FIRST. It’s not their fault, and they couldn’t have done anything about it. But I don’t know if they even know that this happened.
What do you guys think?

That’s frustrating. Thanks for responding. If I can get any videos I’ll let you know.

I also brought a VCR down to KSC, but I didn’t even need one. I just went back to the video trailer and handed them my tape every day . .great setup. :-Dan
