Virtual RoboRIO for testing code without a robot?

Given that the seasons practically been cancelled, and considering how I’ve got 2/3 weeks off of school now, our team isn’t going to touch our robot for a while.

Unfortunately for me: I have more programming projects I want to do like vision processing, more advanced autonomous code, etc. However, I don’t have a spare robot at home I can just boot up and test with.

So now I want to know if a virtual roboRIO is possible.

I’ve seen other threads talk about this, but some were outdated, sighting links that no longer exist, and others ended with hopes of a virtual roboRIO in the future.

Is it possible to set up a virtual roboRIO?

You can run a desktop simulation. Anyhow, how do you plan on simulating vision values? Tuning is kind of impossible without a physical robot…

I have the same webcam on the robot at home, as well as the materials to create a vision target. Given that this is now all off season stuff, I don’t really have the motivation to go big or go home just yet.

What are the steps exactly to run a desktop simulation? never needed to use it.

EDIT: I found this article here Robot Simulation — FIRST Robotics Competition documentation It’s actually exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Starlight!

Happy to help, and good luck! Just out of interest, how are you doing vision processing?
