VIVID Hosting Radio as a 6G hotspot

Hello again,
My team recently got more of the VIVID Hosting Radios and I configured one to be an access point (At least I’m pretty sure I did) and by configuring I mean I updated the firmware. Now I’m stuck and don’t know what the next steps are. We are planning to use this radio for home use not for events. We have a radio on out robot configured as a robot radio.

Did you try checking their website for documentation?

I mean, it took me 10 seconds to google it and find the answer.

I’ve been working on this problem for 5 hours

vivid should put a big ol’ sticker with a link or qr code to the docs on their package, à la om5p boxes

iirc they do have a QR code and link on the box

Not sure if this is sarcasm, but the VH-109 box does include a QR code and link to the documentation.

You updated the firmware to use it as an access point? Do you mean that you upgraded to the access point variant of the firmware? If so, you’d probably be better served with the regular “radio variant” firmware which is meant primarily for non-event practice situations (see: Programming Your Radio | FIRST FRC Radio), set to access point mode.

I did program it to the Access Point Variant. If that’s not necessary then is there a way for me to undo that?

You can just flash the regular radio variant firmware, the same way you did the access point variant. Can you access the webui? If not, did you use the OFFSEASON or PRACTICE firmware? If it’s the practice I think you can just plug into the DS port on the radio and go to http://10.0.100.2/configuration according to https://frc-radio.vivid-hosting.net/getting-started/usage/practicing-at-home/vh-109-to-vh-113-conversion. If you’re using the offseason firmware I think you also need to set a static ip on your laptop for 10.0.100.something (e.g. 10.0.100.50) first for the ethernet interface.

I did the offseason firmware but I can’t find the IP for the radio when plugged in via ethernet. Should I plug it into the robot, plug in the ethernet to the DS port and then change the computers IP?

Yes. The offseason firmware doesn’t do DHCP, so you need to manually assign the ip.

Wait, no, you should be plugging into the field-side radio. Your robot should never have not ran anything but the regular radio variant of the firmware. That being said, if you did flash the offseason variant on your robot radio, that should also be changed back to the regular radio variant the same way.

Ok, I think I understand…
