The FIRST VIMS (Volunteer Information Management System) is up and running, and I think most regionals have great volunteer opportunities available.
Recruit yourself, parents, teachers and others to volunteer for a nearby event - it gets them into the FIRST spirit and helps the planning committee to know early that the key positions will be filled. Experienced FIRST people help an event run smoother.
I am especially recruiting for the BOILERMAKER Regional - I am the Volunteer Coordinator and would love to see lots of familiar Chief Delphi faces wearing FIRST Volunteer shirts at Purdue.
Sign up now - there is an easy link from the FIRST Website.
*PS - Maybe one of the moderators could even add a link to the FIRST volunteer page to this post - and make it ‘sticky’ - since I have no clue how to do either of those tasks. *
The 2006 VIMS system should be up and running by the end of this week. If you are going to a regional or there’s one nearby, all regionals will need your help!
There is not an active link yet, but it will apparently be under the section “For Volunteers” on the www.usfirst.org website.
VIMS will be up and running on November 4th. Be poised and ready to submit! Oh, and sign up to volunteer in Boston. I have plenty of floor space available in my apartment .
I went to delete my secondary address (last years dorm room) and it is now hung up and won’t let me leave them blank. It shows my contact info as incomplete. Bother.
You should be contacted by interested Volunteer coordinators in the coming weeks to confirm any positions you are being looked at for. I would suggest you to contact the regional volunteer coordinator(s) if you have questions or would like to follow up on a volunteer request that you submitted.

For individual events the volunteer coordinator for that event should contact you. As for the background check (if you didn’t do it last year), if the same holds true from last year it will be a month to two week before the event you are supposed to work.
If you are really curious about the status i would try contacting the volunteer coordinator for your regional, although alot depends on the position you have applied for. Announcers, Field Managers, and higher positions are probably already assigned but things like field reset will probably be dealt with down the time line a bit.
*i am not inferring that one position is more important then another and recommend that if you haven’t volunteered you should defiantly do so.
Volunteers are still needed at many of the regional FRC events and also at the upcoming Vex events. You can select which event you are interested in helping out at in the VIMS system.
