VR Simulation - AutomationDirect

Let me know if you need any help getting the VR Simulation up and running. It’s a great way to walk around the field and get a feel for things.

For example - You will find the driver station sight lines for the outer and inner goals is challenging.

Note: You can’t use Windows “Extract Here” - you have to use WinZip or 7-zip or something else to do the initial unzipping. Windows doesn’t recognize the password stuff and throws an error.

Once you get past the encrypted zip file, you will have a regular zip file that can be extracted via “Extract here”

We have a Vive Pro and a Valve Index set up and running the simulation. It is working great. Thank you guys for providing this!

Awesome - Thanks for the feedback - and keep an eye out for updates - We have several in mind…

We have an Microsoft mixed reality head set by Acer and the hand controls are not working any subjections?

Define “not Working”. The controllers don’t show up or the buttons don’t do anything?

The buttons don’t do anything the controllers show up and work with last years game.

Thanks for the info. Well take a look.

We don’t have a WMR to test on, so can you try an experiment for us?

We suspect you can simply modify the key bindings in SteamVR.

Try this: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-create-custom-keybindings-steamvr

Please let us know if that works.

Ok the only function working is the trigger to pick up balls. We mapped the touch pad click to be the same as the trigger to see if we could pick up balls but it didn’t work. So back to square one you can see the hands and pick up balls but no other function works on them.

I wanted to try this but I have no dedicated hardware. Is this something I can just look at on a computer or phone? How do I get started?

@jmagee59 - So you can pick up balls but you can’t toggle the lights on the generator or the goal? That’s odd because the trigger should work the same for both.
If you are looking for other functionality, there isn’t any in this version. Picking up balls and toggling lights is all this version does.

@sanddrag - this is designed specifically for VR headsets. Ask you team mates if anyone has a compatible headset - they will know how to use it.

So you can’t move around the field like in the 2018 and 2019 versions?

Yes you should be able to teleport around the field using the same trigger button

Thank You @rfolea and Automation Direct for a great VR experience for our students! It really helped clarify the field of view for drivers, robot positions within the field and a number of other visual aspects of the game this year. Our team members really liked being able to interact with the balls and goals, and had some good observations about the difficult of scoring this year.

Based on what you have told me we can do everything that you said except teleport around the field. We have changed every setting we can think of and nothing works on the teleport feature. The feature works fine in both the 2018 and 2019 VR fields.

@jmagee59 Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, SteamVR changed the way they handle buttons for the various controllers. We are looking into it to see if there is an easy fix. We have a Vive, Rift and Index, but don’t have a WMR to test on so we will have to lean on you guys to help us with that. Stay tuned …

@ezgmont708 - Thanks for the feedback!

Here are the default button mappings for every controller, looks like the WMR should work:

Since we don’t have a mixed reality headset, we don’t have a way to test it.
Question: Does depressing the Thumbstick work?

Rick

Do the other systems like Vive and Oculus allow for movement in this app?

I was unable to change the bindings for this on WMR in Steam VR.
