WALL•E

I don’t care what the 2009 FRC game will be; we may just have to enter WALL•E no matter what.

Here’s another video of WDI’s WALL•E animatronic – http://youtube.com/watch?v=tuy-3ty3MSs

I called our local cinema a few weeks back to inquire about renting a cinema for a private showing for FIRSTers (we could only get it NEXT weekend, at 10am or something… :frowning: ) and also asked if he’d like me to arrange for some real robot demonstrations on opening day. He replied something about needing Disney approval, etc. and he just didn’t “get it” that a bunch of teenagers and adults have been waiting for this movie to come out for months!

So… if you’re planning on going to see the movie please wear something with FIRST on it - I used to have buttons that said “Ask Me About FIRST Robotics” - and be prepared with your “elevator speech” in case someone asks you about FIRST!

We emailed a bunch of the local teams here in Rochester… if you are in Rochester, meet at the Pittsford Cinema (students with ID get $1 off) for the Friday 9PM showing  I cant wait to see it!!

hm, we’ve arranged for a demo outside one of the theaters with our robot(s). I think it will be a great deal of fun for everyone. Children will ‘get it’ and so will some, hopefully many - adults. Well, maybe the ones who are kids at heart… I think we may know a few of those. cough

Wowsers! That animatronic WALL•E is amazing! I don’t know how the actual robots scales to people in the actual film, but it was a bit larger than I was expecting. But other than that, Imagineers have the greatest job on the planet. That thing is amazing. IFI’s is cutesy, and pretty nifty, but as Dave says, absolutely pails in comparison to that thing.

And, I’m also really looking forward to this movie. :stuck_out_tongue:

Team 1089 Mercury is also doing a presentation and perhaps a demo inside our local theater.

We are supposed to have table, and, are putting up a display board, handing out brochures about our team and what F.I.R.S.T. is about.

We also plan on having this years robot on display, with perhaps some form a demo, perhaps letting some the kids drive it a little or some such. And we’ll be giving out “Future 1089 Member” buttons to the children along with some of the other buttons we have left.

Of course we’ll be there to explain, teach, enlighten, and excite anyone who’s interested as well as promoting the values, goals and ideals of F.I.R.S.T.

We too missed out on IRON Man and Transformers. Even though those movies were for an older crowd. We are hoping to inspire the new, younger and future ones here at this opportunity.

Exploding Bacon will be present and accounted for in front of the theatre in the Fashion Square Mall in Orlando. We will have robots and info…and hopefully we will get to actually see the movie! Cant wait!

Well so far the movie is doing well so far with the critics.

That one doofus had to bring the rating down.

Usually there is more than one (though for Pixar movies there seems to be only one).

I talked to the managers at local theaters and they said it would get too crowded. Well this sucks… :frowning:

Team 811 is doing presintations all weekend using robots from past years. We have one doing a live presintation. One sitting outside the theater waving. Also, one shoot balls to little kids in the parking lot. I’m excited…

Just came back from seeing the movie. It was VERY well done. The first 20 minutes is probably the best 20 minutes of any animated movie in history. It’s a beautiful, well crafted movie that never loses its heart even when its commentary on the future human “evolution” is rather harsh and biting.
This movie gets an “A” from me.

Amazing movie, I LOVED IT!

I did find some of the themes to be a bit depressing.

But wall-e and EVE are so CUTE! (Did I really just say that???)

To everyone here go see it. If you like 2001 space ody you will love this.

Any movie with a unicycle in it has to be good, eh?

Wow, this sounds quite positive. Well, I’m going to see it tomorrow, and now I feel like I can’t wait even more than before… :frowning:

The Disney animatronics booth at Maker Faire had an (almost) fully functioning WALL•E. I believe it was an early prototype of a toy that might be released sometime in the future. Needless to say, it was VERY impressive.

Link to vid…

Now how would I go about coaxing our friends at Dreamworks to make a robot movie…

It’s official! Wall-E is a hit with critics and audiences!

See? Now there’s five of them!

I saw it this afternoon with my girlfriend. Even if you can only catch the $1,618-a-ticket evening show, it is money well spent.
