Would ramping the applied motor power/motor speed down to the “resting speed” then ramping back up to shooting speed reduce the stresses on the belts enough that they would survive?
Potentially. We tried for a bit, but as we didn’t see that much difference in shooting performance with or without the flywheel mass, we choose not to spend a bunch of our limited time before week 1 trying to figure out what the right ramp would be. Had the season progressed, we might have come back to this issue. Also, a brief delay between balls to regain shooter speed was not the most obvious candidate for improving our cycle times.
Yeah, we did that, too–we let it coast down to our “idle” speed and let it rotate there until we were ready to spin up to full angular velocity again.
