Watching matches on a smart TV

My wife wants to watch our matches on the big TV. Is there a way to do this, streaming? it’s a Roku based TV set.

I guess she could plug the laptop video output into the TV…

The matches are streamed on Twitch, and I’m pretty sure there’s a Twitch app for Roku so you could use that. Personally I find the TV Twitch experience pretty bad though so I would plug in a laptop, but that’s just me.

it says something about not working after 1 March 2022?

If you have an iPhone, I was able to watch by opening the stream through the iOS Twitch App, then AirPlaying to my TV.

Oh missed that

Opening Twitch in the built-in web browser might work.

This is also the route i would take personally. Its just easier and more flexible (assuming you have the spare laptop/hdmi cord…)

You can also cast to a TV from a phone or computer using something like a chromecast. This is what I use when the computer is in a different room than the TV.

My TV has built in AirPlay and Chromecast. I’ve used both to project the laptop wirelessly to the TV. In fact, I used this exact setup to watch a couple matches last Friday.

Assuming you have an iOS device You should be able to airplay to your Roku (Twitch app won’t show the option but if you go to that pull down control panel and airplay from that it should work)

Otherwise Chromecast is an option, your TV may have it built in, otherwise their basic dongles are pretty cheap.

The Twitch app for Roku doesn’t work anymore. Amazon wants you to buy Fire TV devices instead.

You can use all the modern gaming devices to stream twitch too.

I really disliked when they removed Twitch from Roku.

Since they did that, chromecast is definitely your best bet. Then you can navigate to different event streams easily on TBA and then once you’ve opened the stream just click the chromecast icon and choose your TV.

The cheap chromecast option is $29.99 from google. A store like BestBuy or probably even Target/Walmart/etc likely has them in stock so you can get one quickly.

I find I end up using the cast feature even to watch YouTube videos and stuff instead of the YouTube app on the TV simply because you can navigate so much faster on your phone and then just cast it once you find what you want.

THanks for the suggestions.

I don’t have youtube on my (android) phone because I can’t stand commercials.

I think she’ll probably just watch the webcast on her laptop, and possibly plug it into the TV, which is in the adjoining room. I did run an HDMI cable from the TV to where it’s easy to get to.

I get this, I watch enough YT that I sucked it up and paid for YT Premium, but I’m sure that is not worth it for you.

The other reason I don’t do youtube on the phone is that I’m on google fi, so I have to pay for data…unless I’m on wifi, in which case I usually have access to a larger screen that my old eyes can see.

I would not, could not, watch on my TV,
I would not, could not, for it’s Roku you see.
I found a solution for watching Twitch,
All you should do is plug in a Switch!
