WCP Flipped GB SS shaft replacement

Quick Question: We are using the WCP Flipped Single-speed 3-CIM gearbox, but we are putting our belts on the wheel-side of our frame. The SS Axle appears a bit shorter than what we’d need. We are considering just replacing it with a length of thunderhex and replacing the bearing holding the shaft in with a hex bearing, then using shaft clamps on both sides of the bearing to hold everything in place.

Has anybody done this particular operation? We don’t have access to a lathe so can’t just turn a new shaft.

Yes, we know that it’s not really the best design choice – we were originally going to go with the 3 CIM non-flipped Gearbox (which has the shaft bearing a lot closer to the wheels), but it was backordered everywhere, and we didn’t want to risk waiting unto February for it to come in.

We definitely did that for one robot (I think 2016 off season). You may want to look at the more the heavy duty / high strength shaft collars if they fit (but I cannot remember off the top of my head).
