What is the program needed to code the frc?
Hello and welcome! You can program your robot in a variety of different languages, but I’d highly recommend Java – its got the most support, which will make it easier for others to help you!
Start here: FIRST Robotics Competition Control System — FIRST Robotics Competition documentation
I would recomend for your first time just as the previous reply starting with java and using an example template, if you would like you can reachout and I would be happy to help you get up and going! I know a first year programming can be dawnting.
There is a lot to learn, quickly.
For programming the robot only you can start here to get the tools necessary.
If you’ve never done FRC programming before (which seems likely based on this post) then zero to robot is a great resource.
Both of the above links, are links that are reachable from BryceHanson’s post above as well.
If you have experience in Java, C++ or Python or have mentors that know those languages, use those. If you are brand new, use Python or Java. View the zero to robot guide here: Introduction — FIRST Robotics Competition documentation
Python is easy to learn but hasn’t been used in FRC for very long, Java is very well supported but a little harder to learn.
Don’t touch C++ unless you have a good reason.
@kingc95 or maybe even @Tom_Line
I believe this team is near one of you according to the FIRST website (it won’t let me sort by nearest) but you’re within 10 miles. Any chance you can help more locally or get them in touch with folks who can help locally?
We are close, we are not the best to learn from with Code for anything outside of basic Tele-op. Definitely willing to make a house call though. We are about 15 minutes away by car. 4810 might be closer but not sure if they are on CD at all.
We are a Java team and have finished our KitBot already so we could get them at least that far probably. Anything like swerve we are learning ourselves at the moment
More so can you help connect these guys to someone, I find rookies usually need a bit of help getting connected with folks
We’d be happy to help with anything outside code, if we can. The build season is never a good time, and we’re going 7 days a week now. In addition, we’re doing Java for the first time this year. While we’re writing a lot of code, what we’ve actually tried to do on a robot is very minimal. And none of us would be able to just sit down and help crank stuff out, much less troubleshoot. In fact, we’re relying on resources outside the team to help when we hit a brick wall, which happens regularly.
Maybe if we tag teammed?
I’m not sure our software team has the bandwidth to help, but the above recourses do get a high recommendation from them, especially the zero to robot. I am available for mechanical/fabrication help. If there’s anything else, we can help with please feel free to reach out.
