33 corals scored with 28 being on the l2-4 meaning only 8 open spots left on l2-4
Also adding, this match had 5 auto corals which in high levels of play i expect it to be more in the 7-9 auto corals as an alliance
Also the match didnt went super perfect for all the teams in the alliance and could have been better with more optimization and driver practice(this is literally the first official comp of the year in the world)
So whats my point -
Defence will be very important this year(already seen some pretty effective defense today)
L1 will become very very important for high levels of play (currently it looks like a lot of teams didnt care enough for l1 and are having a very hard time with it)
Cant wait for 254 and 1690 having a fight who can build the most stable l1 coral pyramid.
Fast scoring of algae (and net scoring) will become very important to set off the tie of having 2 full reefs
“Stealing” algea will become a viable/must do strategy
So question when do you think we will see s full reef?

Also intrested when do you think we will see both alliance reefs full?
Also what the hell are we supposed to do when there is no more scoring spots 2023 option is not viable this year
Based on what we’ve seen with the practice reefs people have set up, I’m sure if FIRST really wanted to fit more coral, they could change L4 slightly to fit two coral up there.
As we already seen today corals who accidentally went down the l4 tube already (very forcefully bt still went down) this might be possible with slightly changing the angle of l4
I was so peeved when they introduced super charging in 2023. On a personal level I really wanted to see a race to grid completion in order to play defense.
I suspect that “supercharging” will not happen this year because the trough can hold a lot of game-pieces. (Which in turn means live scoring will be only approximate)
Furthemore the algae game exists, giving a lot more power to those teams that chose defense + algae as their design strategy.
I predict a lot of teams will shed coral mechanisms (or reduce complexity) in favor of better algae play.
It won’t take long to fill L2-L4 completely. It will take an absolute eternity to fill L1.
In elims, the smarter play is to pivot to algae in the net (not the processor) while filling L3 & L2. So I don’t think we’ll see a full reef in elims for a few weeks.
We might run out of places to score. Unlike 2023, there are shared game pieces (algae), viable defensive strategies, and an “infinite” scoring potential" on L1, which is similar to the overcharged addition.
I would count The reef as full when it gets 60 coral on it. That’s how many you have on your side of the field at the start of the game. And I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.
Nah fam, pivot earlier. You opponents will have scored all the algae by the time you finish L4. You have to be confident you can score all L4 and L3 so you can start with algae. It’s going to turn into an absolute blood bath to see which alliance can score more algae, and it’s going to be glorious.
all this talk on algae being important is making me more and more glad that we went for only algae this year. we can already do algae fast and I’m pretty sure we can do good defense too
Generally, as long as a CORAL still appears to look
approximately like a CORAL it is considered a CORAL for the purposes of rule evaluation and scoring, whether damaged or not.
It’s already a 4" bend radius. The first two reef branches we built with an 8" radius tube die, because we didn’t have a 4" for that size pipe. I ended up welding a stop on the back of L4 to keep the coral from dropping past the bends. I’m not sure how they could modify the reef branches to add more space on L4. It would cause us a serious redesign if we needed to reach higher to score L4.
