The 4th Annual Chief Delphi Invitational is going to be AWESOME.

7-10 days from Kick off to Competition

FULL RADIO REMOTE CONTROL – NO TETHERS

‘Erector Set Simple’ Drive Train Components

Pneumatics – YES PNEUMATICS!

No Precision Machining Allowed – No Lathes, No Mills, No Wire EDM’s, No Centerless Grinders, etc. only drill presses, dremels, saws, files, etc. allowed

‘Bolt together’ Construction – No welding

2ft X 2ft X 2ft Robots (Weight TBD, but 60lbs is a good guess)

A kit of materials that is the envy of FIRST (if you had to buy it all it would cost you OVER $5000)

(Are you listening Mr B? This could be the start of something you have been advocating for a long time. Who knows, we may even keep the game the same next year ;- )

So… …Find a local non-FIRST high school, pay the $400 register for the CDI, find a few vans to transport you team and you’re there!

Believe me, this is a Do-Not-Miss Event. December 4th, be there.

Usually reliable sources report that Team 71 Beatty-Hammond is going to be at the 4th Annual Chief Delphi Invitational.

Are you going to be there?

Joe J.

P.S. One more thing I forgot to mention in the highlights of what is new in 99 for the CDI: NO MORE TOYS in 99.

In past years, many of the robots have looked like escapees from the Island of Mis-fit Toys because nearly all the actuators came from taking a band saw to some Toys R Us bought earth moving equipment

This year we’ll have none of that: We’re talking drill motor actuators (with chucks which will help with some of the nastier interface issues), Custom Built Globe Motors, Custom Built Seat Adjuster Motors and more.

‘Erector Set Simple’ has been the catch phrase around the planning table.

Again, I repeat… you do not want to miss this event.

I am awed by the speed of your pipeline. I only contacted the School Administration of Hammond and advised them of the CDI at 2 p.m. on Thursday. You’re posting about team Hammond was only a few hours later! I believe your rumor mill is a bit premature, however, because no one has advised me that Team Hammond will definitely enter the CDI. Also, if team Hammond does decide to compete (and I do believe they will) the robot will be built at the Hammond Career Center. Our involvement will be limited to that of an adviser.

Unless there is a change in the situation, the T square and triangles remain hanging in the closet, the sandpaper pad and bow pencil are in the drawer and the slide rule is tucked in its leather case.

We feel that your tournament is outstanding. It appears that the arrangement levels the playing field so that teams of all sizes can compete equally and allows the students more opportunity for an hands-on experience. There is no doubt that the CDI will be a huge success.

Wow, I know you had hoped for remote controls for the past couple of years, but to make the dream a reality! I can see it now…NO TETHERS IN '99…NO TETHERS IN '99!

I take it spectators are welcome? I know my team probably won’t be there but I’d love to watch or help in any way I can.

Great, only an act of mother nature could keep me away from it.
