Soooooo, I have a major problem. I downloaded the official FIRST field CAD models today so we could start building some key field pieces to test our bot, and I’ve run into a major compatibility issue with them. Since they were made in SolidWorks, I can’t open them in AutoCAD or LibreCAD. I can’t simply buy SolidWorks, as we don’t have the money for it, and I can’t seem to get the website to work in a way where I would be able to create a SolidWorks ID and install the free trial. What can I do with my current situation?

Here is the step file that was made to fix the field at the beginning with all the cad issues if that doesn’t work for ya shoot me a pm.
You can view it for free on Onshape in your browser. Check out this thread: Onshape 2019 Field Model
I’d recommend playing with Onshape a bit if you haven’t yet, as well.
You can get Solidworks for free by applying for a license.
You should also be able to view the SW models using the free SW eDrawings viewer.
If you are looking to physically build field pieces, you can use the Field Drawings provided by FIRST. The official drawings (same as at a competition) are the Season Specific and Evergreen (field border and alliance stations), if you are just looking to interact/test and a different materials (ex. plywood) are not an issue, use the simplified Team Drawings, Full field or Just the Basics. Lastly if you want to test autonomous or other distance specific tests, you’ll want the Field Layout and Markings diagram.
Autodesk Inventor is free to anyone with a student email. Solidworks can also be acquired for free by FRC teams, like someone earlier mentioned. Onshape is another great option, and probably the fastest one to just start using, though I don’t have experience with it.
