Hey all,
Is there any word on where the criteria for the 2013 website award are? A google search yields only the 2012 copy.
Hey all,
Is there any word on where the criteria for the 2013 website award are? A google search yields only the 2012 copy.
Nothing’s been released specifically for most awards, but per the FRC Blog from August 28th, the Website Award is being replaced with the “New Media Award”:
Also, what do Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, Flickr, and iPhones have in common? Each was invented after the Website Award – recognizing excellence in student designed, built, and managed team websites – was introduced by FRC. The ways to create and deliver content have grown exponentially over the last ten years, so it’s time to evolve the FRC Website Award. To continue to challenge FRC students, the Website Award has morphed into the New Media Award.
The FRC New Media Award will recognize a team’s creative use of digital media and devices to create and distribute content that is used to promote the team’s profile, achievements, and outreach, along with the FIRST mission. We are working feverishly to ready the New Media Award for the 2013 season. Continue to tune in to the FRC Blog – we’ll keep you posted as the New Media Award takes shape.
At this point it seems most likely that details on the Media Award will be released at kickoff and no sooner, which is somewhat unfortunate.
In Frank Miller’s blog post today, he mentions that the criteria are in the new Administrative Manual: http://frc-manual.usfirst.org/viewItem/9#6.8
Thanks guys.
Darn, as a hardcore web developer I now feel so much less useful . But on the other hand I’m really excited that social media’s role in the award is much greater.
But then comes the question of how do you measure your outreach? Facebook has analytics for their pages and you can add google analytics to your website, but how do you measure twitter?
I think it’s great that they are going this route, but I wish it wouldn’t have been this year (my first & last year in FRC as a student & web developer)
BUMP
Has anyone received more information than that from the awards manual yet? I’ve been bugging my team captains but they couldn’t find any guidelines.
