Week 1 issues

We just came back from our Week 1 competition at Del Mar and here are the issues we encountered:

  1. Loose connection to the battery, our robot light would go solid during the game for a few seconds
  2. Cameras did not work for half the games
  3. Loose wires, our cargo grabber stop working during one of the games
  4. Bad ethernet cable, again, our robot light would go solid during the game for a few seconds
  5. Joystick got mixed up an in a couple of games, we were raising the elevator instead of driving
  6. During pre-game checks, the climb piston came down and the team rushed to be on the field without bringing the piston back up.
  7. Wiring harness kept getting caught by the elevator mechanism, harness replaced

Do you use Labview? I think there is a global issue with Labview and cameras this year.

We had a few issues. Our very first match our ethernet popped out of our radio when jumping off of Hab 2 in the sandstorm. We sat dead for the rest of the match. Another time the VRM somehow got shorted. Other than that, the usual mechanical fixes from intense gameplay.

Yes. We use LabVIEW, and yes the three LabVIEW teams that I know of, had camera issues at our competition. The field tech mentioned something about another update coming up.

At Week 1 an issue was that the cargo balls were over inflated

We were mostly functional at CADM. Issues were:

  1. Pressure relief valve wasn’t configured correctly out of the bag. Got caught and fixed in inspection.
  2. Retaining ring popped out of a Versaplanetary 90 degree stage, leaving our manipulator dangling for a match.
  3. Pistons used for climbing weren’t exactly parallel, causing them to jam a bit in early climb attempts.
  4. Pinion gear came detached from a 775 pro.
  5. Questionable yellow card in our last quals match for being over height in the hab zone. Lowered the elevator extension to be shorter during climber deployment.

Overall nothing major for a week 1. I’m a little peeved that the elevator height issue is worthy of a yellow card, but it is what it is.

I had been wondering why we were suffering from camera problems. Thank you for the info.

10 teams here in Israel are using LabVIEW with USB cameras, and all but one of them are having issues with streaming to the dashboard. We (CSAs) are working on finding some quick-fixes, and FIRST HQ is working on a more permanent solution. With any luck it’ll be ready before week 2 (not that that helps the teams competing now).

Only issues was our ability to pull off what we designed for fully. Otherwise so far the field is surprisingly stable so for week 1 kudos FRC

Here is link to the solution for the camera issues for the teams using LabVIEW from National Instruments.
