With the first week of competition almost done, I decided, with all the free time and lack of a social life, to create a spreadsheet containing statistics from every regional in the first week. I did not look through every match and kept track of every breach and every shot. I took all of this data from www.thebluealliance.com.
If there are any problems that you may see with the data, let me know and I will fix the problem as soon as I can. Can’t wait to see what will happen in the upcoming weeks and can’t wait for out competition to come up. April can’t come fast enough.
The graphs I assume you made are not loading for me. I don’t know if this is just me or an error everyone is getting. When I trey to open them in another tab it is saying I don’t have permission to get the url. Hopefully you can fix it as I was excited to see the graphs.
good catch for the similar scores, Blue alliance took down the high and low goal scores so those will stay the same for now but I updated everything else. As for the graphs, I have the graphs made but have run into some troubles making sure they work in the published doc. I will try some more tomorrow to get them up.
Eugene switched the display from total number of goals to average number of high/low goals per match. We figured that just displaying the total number didn’t provide an easily comparable metric between events (since events that have wildly different match counts will have wildly different goal totals). So instead, we took the average. Hopefully this change makes the stats easier to interpret and makes it more applicable to compare results between events and over time.
I manually entered in all the data for stuff like breaching success rates and climbing success rates but then used functions in excel to calculate the percentages and averages.
It wasn’t that bad since www.thebluealliance.com centralized all that data for each regional under the insights tab. I just tried to centralize it more.
At Lake Superior, there were 202 matches played, but Class A defenses were out for 200 of the matches. (60 portcullis, 140 cdf). Was this a miscount in data, or was there a more interesting explanation at the event?
I’ve found that the TBA data has a tendency to not record defense type for position 3 in the first match. They have a few other data glitches, but that’s the most common one.
Could you share the editable spreadsheet or upload a downloadable version? I would like to make some graphs with all this info, using Tableau ::safety:: ::safety::
Can anybody dump this data into a tableau server? (Bonus points for integrating with The Blue Alliance API)
It would be a wicked awesome way to work with all this data. A Scala/R GUI interface works too. We can get some real data science action going on over here.
I have attached the excel spreadsheet that I used to make all of this data for anyone that wants to add/change anything they want. If you want to add something to the master google sheets copy for everyone to see, don’t hesitate to contact me.
