Week 3 OPR - All regionals/district and World ranking

All Week 3 events are done except for New York. I have published the OPR results for all regionals/districts without New York. When they finish tomorrow, I will republish the results. A lot of teams played this weekend and I am sure teams cannot wait to find out. Data is posted at http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/2174

I need to explain the changes I made for this week. As we discussed last week, I have added more columns to the right for each event to adjust the OPR bridge numbers and the overall OPR numbers. This is to follow Bongle’s lead in oprnet to give 5 points to bridge points for every 1 coop point.

Also I spent a few hours this morning and finished changing the macro so it can calculate the bridge, hybrid, tele and coop OPR in the World Ranking also. However since I am relying on the total bridge, hybrid, tele and coop points for each team published in the Standing page on the FIRST website, I have to skip the elimination round matches since those data are not provided. The World OPR is now also adjusted with the coop points as well.

I can see how our focus on the coopertition bridge in NYC hurt our ranking, since our BP was fairly low there. But being in the top 20 helps validate many of our design decisions this year.

*If there’s any interest, here’s the Twitter data (all data; no macros, no formulas) for Qual and Elim matches for weeks 1, 2, and 3… possibly useful for locating highest-scoring matches and other such things of interest.

Your team’s OPR is 22.3, but after adjusting for Coop bridge point, your adjusted OPR is 26.1 (column AE) which is what is used in sorting for world ranking. Hence the fact that you went to the coop bridge and sometimes did not have the alliance bridge balanced is being recognized in this data.

I have a request to post the results in 2003 Excel .xls format. I was successful one time last year after hours of trying. The problem is Excel keep crashing every time I try to save in .xls format with this spreadsheet.

I tried removing all 2007 only formatting but nothing seems to work. Can anybody shed some light on this or try writing out the .xlsm file I posted in .xls? The only way I know how is to copy out each sheet one at a time and start fresh. But that is too painful. I am trying to help out this person who cannot read 2007/2010 format but I cannot spend so much time to do it this way every time I publish the results.

Have them download the exel/office compatibilty pack - that should allow them to at least open the files.

Inclusion of CP a good idea but not sure it is enough as formulated to compensate for the amount of TP lost during final 45 to 60 seconds almost every match for our team on the Co op bridge as we focused more on guaranteeing first seed than racking up points.

I haven’t been able to open Ed’s spreadsheet, but from what I’ve read I assume he has reported each Team’s least-squares calculated contribution to Hybrid, Bridge, TeleOp, and CP separately so that the user can blend them any way he deems most appropriate.

The Jumbotrons in VCU did a great job of sucking some OPRs dry.

This is more or less impossible to do without any data on what was the average time left in the match when that specific team started to balance the Coop Bridge, as I’m sure this value will vary from team to team. Some teams may play it safe and start to balance much sooner, while others may push their luck.

Even for the same team, I would expect this time to vary from event to event based upon the average match difficulty (among other variables). Teams at weaker events will likely start balancing the bridge sooner to ensure that teams with weak bridge tippers and/or weak/slow drivetrains can make it onto the bridge, while teams at stronger events will likely spend more time scoring during Teleop to both help secure a win and because of a higher confidence that a balanced bridge can happen in a shorter time span.

You get 10 bridge points for balancing on the coop bridge which is the same if you were to go to the alliance bridge to balance on your own or with a partner. I think this is Bongle’s reasoning to choose to do it this way.

Ether, I added columns to show adjusted OPR bridge points and overall OPR and use that for ranking purpose. Teams can change the number of points for each Coop bridge point but the ranking will not be recalculated. I am still trying to write out in .xls format but without any luck so far.

My reasoning was that the 2 CP points earned by each alliance could have been 10 bridge points for each alliance if their alliance members had decided to go for the alliance bridges instead of the CP bridge.

Really, I should’ve just left the adjustment only in the bridge category rather than also including it in the overall OPR as well. But several sets of stats had already been posted, and removing it would make week-against-week comparisons difficult. The reasoning for including it in overall OPR was that teams who were on the CP bridge every match rather than the alliance bridges would rank very low in the “prestigious” overall OPR, even though they could’ve ranked quite high if only they’d balanced a different bridge.
