Week 5 Score Breakdown: Aim High

The Numbers
This week, the average match score was 246, about 15 points higher than last week. Just like the last 2 weeks, 20% of that was in Auto and 76% in Teleop. Foul scores rack up 3.4% of the match score, at 8.3 points per game (+0.7)

In playoff matches, 1.3% of the match score is dedicated to the 4-rotor bonus (+0.2%), with an average of 17.49 rotor bonus points per playoff match (+4.0). kPa bonuses have gone up in playoff matches, from 0% to 0.1%, at 1.63 points per match.

In Autonomous, Mobility accounted for 27.2% of the auto score (-1.5%). Rotors are becoming less valuable in auto, making up 68% of the auto score (-0.5%). High Fuel has gone UP, making up 4.7% of the auto score (+2.0%). Low Fuel still sits at a measly 0.1%.

In Teleop, Rotors are less popular, accounting for 46.8% of the teleop score (-0.6%). Takeoff points are worth 50% of the match score (-0.4%). High Fuel makes up 1.3% of the teleop score (+0.6%), and Low Fuel makes up 0%, just like last week.

This week, 100 games (0.9%) were decided by fuel, while 118 games (1.0%) were decided by fouls.

The Extras
These values are from the entire season, not just week 5
There have been 19 occurrences where an alliance has scored >=40kPa in autonomous, all but 2 of which were by the red alliance.

348 Alliance Seeds (6.9%) have been determined by kPa Bonus Ranking Points, and 514 (10.3%) determined by Rotor Bonus Ranking Points.

The highest combined score (red + blue) of the season so far belongs to Semis 2 Match 1 of the Israel District Championship, at 972 points (75 more than the previous record).

The Opinions
Fuel has made a massive increase this week, accounting for a MUCH larger part of the auto score, and also seeing an up in the teleop score. This suggests that most, if not all, of the 40kPa bonus is scored in auto.

Something else to note is that rotor bonuses are on the rise. There have been an average of 17.34 match points PER MATCH dedicated to the quad rotor bonus. Sure, rotors themselves are dedicated less to the teleop and auto score, but the fact is more and more teams are reaching the 4 rotor bonus.

Climbing remains dominant at 50% of the teleop score.

Teams are breaking the score ceiling, and this is where fuel starts to become important. I’ll write another post in the future outlining the pyramid dynamic of this game. Watch this space.

I must say, this is one of my favorite weekly series.

I’d love to see statistics on how often alliances that score 4 rotors or 40kpa end up winning/losing that match in both quals and elims.

I’d like to see that, too.

3620’s record when activating the 4th rotor is 10 wins and 1 loss. Two of our 4th-rotor matches were in quals, and nine were in playoffs. The loss was in a playoff match in which our robot and one of our alliance partners broke down, costing us two climbs and adding a free-climb to our opponents.

We have yet to be part of an alliance that earned a pressure RP or bonus.

Using a python script on Blue Alliance data for just week 5 this is what I got.
