[Week One] How Many Points Will Your Robot Score?

Hello all,

How many points will your robot score? Its a question that gets posted, answered, and exaggerated every single year. Every year, we on CD are dramattically off from the truth. Usually teams overexaggerate their own performance and so before Week 1 we are convinced we will see huge match scores.

This year, I want to see how the community changes over the build season. Maybe we start getting more confident maybe not. I will post this same poll week 3, week 5, and week 6.

Can we make this a poll?

If we mean completely solo, it would be impossible to score less than 20 points and earn a ranking point. You would get 5 points from the 1st cross of 4/5 the obstacle at a minimum.

Not to mention, I would be extremely surprised if anyone expected >100 points by themselves, especially in a week one situation. Scoring a defense + a high goal in auto, and weakening the tower and breaching all 5 defenses, AND hanging would score 115 points. I don’t think a robot could do all of that within the match time, so…

120 point+ people, not sure what you’re thinking. Either too optimistic or I missed a strategy…

It’s so early… We are not likely to even know exactly what functions we are going to work on for a few days or a week yet… We have a very general strategic concept, but need to do a bunch of basic prototyping (tonight/tomorrow) before we’ll even know what functions we’ll definitely have…

Yup… I can see 100 points for a very good shooter if the competition field is really strong and boulders are being continuously scored and returned to the playing field and a partner is working to feed you boulders… However, if you are the only “strong” bot on the field (likely in a week 1 district event), you might struggle to score more than four or five boulders…

I can’t wait to compare the average results of this poll to the actual Week One averages.

What if you are planing on scoring 2 ranking points solo(assume partners can get on the batter)? Crossing 8 times putting a ball in the low goal 8 times is a viable strategy.
