Well guys (and girls too–gotta love bot chics!)–week one is OVER! Can u beleive that? Jeese! Well I hope everbody is progressing well, and that you all are keeping yourselves sain…cuz by Feb ya’ll know it gets crazy!! Reply back to this and tell me how its goin!
everthing is going good here. we are still working on our design but r getting closer to coming up with what our robot is going to look like this year. i am very tired though we have been here every night to about 10 all week and then i have to go home a do my homework. i cant wait till competition this year to see what people came up with.
Hey! Week one isn’t over until midnight tonight! We still have… almost ten hours left 'til the first week is over! Lol Yep, like Allie said, everything is going great here. We’re prototyping like mad today!
thats awesome guyz, we’ve been doing the same stuff–concepts, stratagies, and mockups of different things we want for our robot this year. we’ve been working like CRAZY and we still need more $$ to get our butts to florida! any fundraising ideas?
I’d give you my fundraising ideas, but 1) there was already a threat related to fundraising, and 2) we’re already on the same team lol. Anyway, yea, week one gone, only 5 weeks left. Where does all the time go? Especially on all those 1:00 am insomniac mornings?
No matter what, it’s well worth it
the “threat” meaning the email we got about cheaper florida prices?

Sorry, meant to say thread. Insomnia for over a week tend to mess with your crazy. I hope I didn’t brain my damage.
nah u didnt brain ur damage…hehe but u ARE gunna damage urself if u dont watch out for that damn belt sander!
Hey, it wasn’t my fault. The sander jumped out at me!!
lol sure it did…belt sanders dont just eat people! i dont think it likes you. but hey- thats fair payback cuz ur laptop doesnt like me!
belt sanders i dont’ know about, but someone dead shorting the wires i’m working on leaves a nasty mark…
we’ve been working on our robot for a week, and granted, we’ve had some problems with supplies and finding a good place to work, i’m not satisfied with the amount of work we have done. all we have is some sketches on a piece of plywood and some ideas about motors… the adults are trying to graph and plot things all over the place and we’re not getting far… not to mention how they listen to you for like 1/2 a sec then go back to their ideas…
basically do you guys have any useful help concerning the leadership of the team, and about how far we should be each week? thanx from a rook!

we’re not to much further along that u guys are, we have mock-ups for wheels made outa plywood and scrap aluminum. we have our robot pretty much designed in our heads but as far as actually building it, we have gotten nowhere.
as far as leadership goes for our team–the adults rock the show. many of the students want to do things their own way but dont have enough willpower/courage to do anything about it though, so the adults kinda control a lot. we’ve stood for what we’ve wanted though recently. last year, some adults wanted a certain color for our teeshirts but none of the students agreed, so finally we took an independant vote and decided upon ourselves. getting together as a student team works to stand up for yourselves. FIRST is for us, not the adults, and i thnk its taken my team about 5 years to finally realize that, considering it was the students last year who got us to almost win nationals (we came in 7th place and missed finals by a hair) by almost demanding how the robot be built. if we hadnt done so, we would have never done as well as we did. so its up to you guys, as students, to recognize yourselves and stand up for your team.
thx for the advice. hey, while i’m at it, i’m glad to see some chik-techies. all the chiks on our team are afraid to touch anything and are all in marketing or something. i just am glad that there are women out there who probably know more things about this stuff than i do

the way i see it is: this is an engineering team…i.e for recognition of SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY. i dont see it as for recognition of the chairmans award and fundraising. to me, all that stuff should be done by every person on the team. you’re on the team to build a robot, not to sit around and paint your nails. im not some tomboy chic whose saying this either…hehe…i go to meetings and work at beltsander that likes to bite at people while wearing nice clothes…but im not afraid to get my fingers dirty (just my shoes…hehe j/k)
Hey, i can appriciate that
