The NMRC (Northern Minnesota Robotics Conference)
Just held it’s annual week. Zero event today, February 17th.
Here are a few thoughts from what I saw as an event coordinator and as a coach.
Don’t think we saw three robots climb on the same alliance in a match.
A robot that could do five to eight cycles was pretty good at week zero.
I think we only had one trap attempt, but unsuccessful.
Simple robots seemed to outperform complex robots at week zero.
Very few to almost no successful autos so far.
Very few human players could throw a note successfully
Sight lines aren’t as bad as I thought they would be.
Going under the stage is nice to be able to do.
Can get very congested around the speaker.
Probably requires vision tracking to shoot more than 3 or 4 ft away from the speaker accurately in a match, but you might be able to compensate with good set points.
Chargers 5348 were at St Michael Albertville on Saturday as well. We had one 3 robot climb but I think could have had more and expect to see it at week 1 a good amount. It really is not hard to climb with the andymark climber in a box. We harmony climbed with them easily and had very fast single climbs.
Yes that was good cycling. We have a good robot again which is simple and swerve and with one other bot I think the best we did was a match of 27 pieces put in between amp and speaker.
We had no trap attempts
SImple was good and worked. I do think long term the complex will take over and be great but early season simple bots will be very effective and win lots of matches.
We were the only team autoing and becker once they finally got on the field. We did a 3 piece a couple of times but more often tried 3 and made 1 or 2. Many bots which have a ground pick up should be able to get a 2 piece auto even for week 0 assuming they have a bot put together right now.
Our human has practiced a bunch and was getting fairly good around 35% but yea it is not very easy.
sight lines are not that bad can see under stages and that helps.
yes
yes
we broke limelight and were still doing podium shots and auto line shots away from sub with fairly decent accuracy.
I am excited for the game as it seems like lots of fun. Coordination with teammates and good communication is going to be key in getting wins.
