Weekly Wins 10-25-2024

Homeland Security came out to do a vulnerability assessment of our power plant and I got to participate. I’m an IT guy, but they let me tag along on the physical security part of the assessment, including a trip through the normally forbidden, (due to the danger), underground “steam tunnels”.

I took the PSAT today, a few weeks until I get my results.

Doing things outside of your job scope is a load of fun. I have some unfortunate observations of it not going well (it is important to know the dangers of something you are not familiar with, can be deadly), however it can be VERY informative.

Seems like a cool experience.

We’re reorganizing our space! The new layout is hopefully going to be a lot better for zoning clutter. And we’ve finally managed to throw out/give away some of the electronics that have been gathering dust for 15+ years. We apparently kept them in the past because we “might need them again” – but I think the 2007 FRC control system components are a bit past relevance!

We also found a part of a robot signed by Dean Kamen which was cool! (Our best guess is it’s from the 2011 robot but we don’t really know.)

Our biggest annual fundraiser just finished and it broke our record of $9300, with an insane $10600! We’re super stoked to have this much after being quite literally in debt to our school last year😭

I’ve been waiting for this week’s Weekly Wins thread for almosr 2 years now. On Friday I got to marry the love of my life.

Outdoor weddings in Michigan in October are risky, but we had absolutely perfect weather. Everything went extremely smoothly and I couldnt be happier with how it all went.

(Some of y’all might recognize the watermark on the picture, one of our head refs in FiM Jared Miles is a multitalented queen and did an amazing job with our photos)

I hope you mean 50mg of spriolactane, or your blood is going to be thinner than a sheet of paper (for the people who don’t know trans medical care well, spriolactane is a blood thinner and an anti androgen). Anyways, congrats!

Yeah, actually- We run a haunted house in our community(our school lets us use the top floor of an old school building for a couple months to set up), and it’s been around for about 9 years at this point. It’s $10 per person and at this point most people in the community know about it, so the limiting factor on how much we make is how many people we can send in at a time. This year went particularly well because we were able to get posts about the event in local magazines and Facebook accounts, which had us packed for pretty much the entire duration of the event. It single handedly pays for most of our robot every year so you can imagine the scheming I’ve been doing with all the fancy new electronics we can buy.

694-1796-369 won NJBE together on Saturday for our final offseason in 2024. After our NYBRO win with 1796 last Sunday, we’ve won two events together in the same calendar week, making us (I assume) the first pair of teams to do so!

Last Saturday, my team finally went to our first WMRI since 2019. We had a great time with 31 amazing teams in the west Michigan area. And now some of our freshmen have something to look forward to in the upcoming season.
