Andrew wasn’t sure if he would be able to start this, so I’m filling in.
My wins: (at least 2)
We had a great Thanksgiving hosting our kids, my sister, and a couple in-laws. Later my brother, who is visiting my sister in Colorado, called us.
Today we went to Candy Cane Christmas Tree Farm (shameless plug, support your local family-owned businesses) and cut a wonderful concolor fir. The living room smells wonderful as I type this. Lights and decorations to come.
Very successful travel and return for early thanksgiving. Met with my old undergrad department, GF had a GREAT visit for potential PhD program.
Picked up a book and read for enjoyment rather than for technical. Happy I was able to do this, it took me over a year before I was able to read for enjoyment after my MS, doing it within my course of study is amazing to me.
I got to visit Hagia Sophia / Sultanahmet Square, the Rainbow Metro, and the Modern Art Museum all today, that was pretty neat. This week I did a lot of resting, after the crazy insane stress of the last couple months, this week has been a nice break. And the flooring in my new house is about done, not much left till I can move in
My grandfather had some really cool Soda collectibles and the really large Pepsi clock still works. I found the parts for two smaller clocks and was able to get some of it all grouped together. So productive wins there and that big clock might come to our robotics lab in the future for an LED upgrade and a more permanent home.
At work with the short week we had some stretch goals we didn’t expect to meet. The first day went really well so we ended meeting those goals early Wednesday. Feels nice to have a clean plate before a long weekend.
After that, really enjoyed the days off of work. Took some time to reorganize my tool boxes, work on some Christmas/Winter 3d printed decor and slept in. I’ve been traveling alot the last couple weeks so it’s great to be home for awhile and spend Thanksgiving with family.
Random Win: I found “Who’s Line is it Anyway” on HBO Max and I’m obsessed.
I had a huge leak spraying water all over my basement and a former student (not FRC) was driving by in his van 'o plumbing stuff just as the call went out, so I went from “ohgodohgodohgod turn off the main valve!” to repaired and ready to entertain for Thanksgiving 2 in under an hour and for less than $200.
My win… is complicated. I was supposed to be on a nice cruise but due to some medical issues we had to get off. Win is that we are now safely home after a whirlwind drive. Hoping our travel insurance let’s us recoup some of the cost. But if vacations are supposed to be about experiences…
I’ve been living and working in Jaipur, India for the last 2.5 months, and took the weekend to visit Mumbai! I’ve had an incredible time here, and met up with @ashwinshah to give 8 hours of workshops with his rookie FRC team 9692 Sigma. Today we had a great mock kickoff of the 2018 game (a personal favorite of mine). I’m expecting great things from them this year
Bonus win: My dad had locked his keys in his old pickup truck with the engine running. After trying the back sliding window, unsuccessfully picking the door lock, we eventually tried wood shims in the window seal and a coat hanger hook to grab the latch in the door. By golly it worked. We got it unlocked and turned back off.
Didn’t expect to learn how to break into a truck or need to use that information but that’s life.
We had the shows for our fall play of Harvey. Stage Crew received the Home Depot Order the Monday before our Thursday opening show, so it all came together at the end.
My boyfriend and I had a great Thanksgiving with my family down in southern California. It was our first holiday together and his second time meeting my family, and it went really well! His rolls were a huge hit and everyone wanted to take the leftovers home, and I got him and my dad playing spellsbee (a free knock-off of the NYT Spelling Bee) together.
