I saw frost the other morning, that means one thing - Fall. Who has some wins? See some great leaves changing? Pass a test? Remember to do your homework?
For me, my suit came back from alterations and looks good. We also have a hack week at work and I get to build something I hope will be fun.
After two years of fighting for it, I got officially diagnosed with ADHD and am receiving medication for the first time tomorrow. Also got lots of candy trick or treating.
Congrats! I got diagnosed earlier this year and it has been a game changer for me even though we’re still working on dosing and may be trying out some other medications due to side effects.
I’m also sorry you had to go through so much to get that diagnosis.
Eh… only win I can think of is finally delivering a larger automation project at work which will help my team considerably.
Granted that win feels greatly overshadowed by the company laying off ~1200 people including a member of my team, and my GF and I discovering likely asbestos tile and black mastic under the carpets in the house we have been working on, and that I need to move into this month… Tile was in as bad shape as the carpet itself was, so can’t really just re-cover it as is… So looking at options to remove and dispose of the tiles safely then seal the mastic underneath… Ideally in a way that won’t require new flooring overlaid immediately just due to financial limitations…
We got our fall cleaning done - at least outdoors. We pulled out the dead tomato and pepper plants from the garden, pulled the weeds we’d missed all summer, and added leaves and compost. My wife emptied a few flower pots. We mowed the lawn (last time!?) and put those clippings and leaves into the compost bin for next year.
Figured out a new organization system for team documents, been working through our Google drive (I started our team website and saving videos, images etc since 2012) and it’s been a major overhaul.
As part of that I’ve had to write Document Coding guides, Usage guides for each folder type, and having to apply our new system to old files. Once the old stuff is fixed the students will be able to do this years with plenty of examples and then continue onward in the future.
In theory every document has a document code:
Example, 7th agenda type document of Fall 23, Version 1.0.0
FA23-AG-08_11-4-23Agenda_V1.0.0.docx
(Document 1 is always the template)
and footer code:
Same Example but page 6
FIRST Robotics Team 453 FA23-AG-08 V1.0.0 - 6
to help us figure out where each page if lost could come from, if we are missing pages when printing or assembling a binder for comp and then also how each version of a document changes and who did it.
This has been a long project I’ve been working on for a few weeks so hopefully after a full season of this we can publish a guide of how our system works. So my win is getting a bulk of the work done before we hit November so we have two months to train the team in the system.
Edit: also a big fan of the Lego Flowers, we’ve got 2 sets of those we put out when we don’t have live flowers for the dining room table.
I was back at work this week after taking all of last week off due to COVID [apparently omicron, based on high speed and only an hour of fever]. My wind is still not all there, but otherwise I’m doing fine, and production at work is back on schedule.
Tomorrow (Sunday) is the church’s monthly pancake breakfast; hoping I can keep going through it all.
Next week will be tight with a 4 day week (Veteran’s Day), and one of my analysts being on leave all week and another for Thursday, and a slightly heavy analysis load, We won’t make any progress on long term projects, but I have the work laid out so we should get through.
We hosted our first FLL scrimmage and it was a huge success! We’re hoping to make it an annual event. Getting to referee was fun, planning on signing up for upcoming local FLL competitions as well!
My dog met our robot. That makes her our newly commissioned shop dog. Unfortunately, she ran away before I could get a good picture. She was fascinated by CAD though, so maybe that’s more her speed.
Our team came in 3rd at BGRC after quite a bit of work! This means we have gotten every finishing position from winner through third! Thanks to 2834 for hosting, and 3322 for helping sort out our power to the pit issue. Congrats to them, 2337, 51 and 1481 for their win!
Also had a nice afterparty.
The Costa Rica Mojo Dojo Casa House Power of Attorney So They Can Turn On Our Electricity saga is ***probably over!
I had to: Get a CR lawyer to draw up the document, get it notarized, then have the county clerk certify the notary, then get it legally translated, then get that notarized, then have the county clerk certify the notary, then send it to the New York State Department of State to get “apostilled” (and you know you’re in red tape land when you have to learn new bureaucratic terminology), got that back after about a month, and it’s been shipped to the relevant people down yonder…

I hope you’llLimelight, an integrated vision coprocessor have better luck.
He just has to deal with the local planning department, which is located downstairs in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying “beware of leopard”.
I made it through the last offseason of the year and now get to hibernate until January (at least FRC-wise).
