Weekly Wins 12-8-2023

Look I was asked what my time off plans for Christmas/New Years were… I don’t understand how that’s a thing I should have figured out. So… wins to help me cope with my comprehension of the continuous progression of time?

My win is I’m making some progress on a tool for visualizing the range of motion of kinematic chains… Soon it will be ready to deploy somewhere…

  • Won a basket at the dept. Holiday party, beating out one of the profs (on random chance)

  • Submitted a paper I really didn’t want to write

  • Made substantial progress getting my scouting tools operational as a web app (and stand alone) for both: 1) experienced teams with lots of resources that would like a quick pick list to discuss and 2) less experienced/ lower resourced teams that may be able to only scout on vibes. (Either way there is no year to year setup, more details to follow in the next week)

Finished all classes I needed for my major. Technically still need to see if I passed, but next quarter should be my last (gotta finish out my minor, kept having classes conflict for the last year.)

First off… We stopped a scam that’s a community win. Especially with kickoff coming up that could’ve been really bad.

Arriving in my mail this week, two new robots… New to me anyways.

Vincross Mindkit. It was a Kickstarter in 2019, the documentation is non-existent but the concept was so cool and I found it for dirt dirt cheap. Might just take it apart. Each square part is a module like brain, servo controller, sensor and IO input area, etc. Then a basic rover base with limit switch bumpers.

Then this IRobot Kobra (no remote or charger, but still cool) with flipping Tank treads. Gonna definitely try to get this to be Pi controlled.

Team Wins:

Found all of our CNC bits which was preventing us from getting any work done. They got lost in the moving from last year.

Never cut aluminum on a router before… Finally got the courage to try it this week with an Alumni who did a lot of research and testing for me.

So the heavyweight FTBB got finished: Reddit - Dive into anything

And I immediatly decided to make a different robot using it as a base, “Knightric”

Made some good headway into the electrical loose parts inventory, think I have most of the major items, just need a bunch of sensors, soldering stuff, tools, and I’m not actually anywhere near done.
Trailer lights are progressing nicely as well.

Survived a head cold.
Had a lot of kids learn to break and rebuild 25 and 35 chain. No one left crying either!
Slowing feeling prepared for the 2024 season.

Chewing constantly? Sounds good to me.

Received our first husky cart for our pit and started cutting the wood for the enclosure.

Started mechanical design training and got them started on making an elevator and shooter.

It’s the last week of a calc 3 course I’m taking virtually through a college, and I’m very happy about that.

We planned our upcoming mock kickoff (around the fabulous mock game Melody Melee
2023 Mock FRC Game: Melody Melee ).

We practiced some more with our swerve testbed robot: https://imgur.com/a/O2Q5GTz

and you’ll note it comes with our new proposed standard for bumpers:

Dodgers fans like me will take today’s win.

And I got news that some new stage lights are approved for ordering, time to do a surprise upgrade right before Christmas!

We just got our new stage lights installed and they are so cool. We have full-color LED across the whole stage, plus 2 movers and cyc lights. I’m very excited for the spring musical to be able to use them fully. (but now we don’t have an excuse when the director says he wants the lights to be “cool water”)

For somehow the first time in my 9 years of programming, I finally “officialy” released an application, which also happens to be the FIRST application I made for a relatively specific subset of users. You can guess what that group is

Additionally, as part of student service group, I played music with several strings players for senior citizens at two retirement communities. Somehow, I played my first true solo piece…

What, the other guys just dropped out, leaving you alone on that piece? :notes: :notes:

Heh, wouldn’t be the first time. But no, this was an actual solo piece!
