It’s not a gif this week but I mean, come on, that’s one adorable penguin…
What’s going well for folks this week? Week -1/0/Whatever I can’t count go well? Robot coming together? Pass a test? Wake up regularly? Whatever is going well in your life let’s hear about it.
My win - after a lot of fiddling it seems we have path following working pretty ok. Gonna spend some time this weekend integrating more vision into the robot.
Robots for work are off running at a customer facility after a big update. Did my second ever magazine interview today.
We got our main bot chassis back from a vendor who has a laser cutter, but it won’t be ready for week 0 for getting everything transferred from the proto-chasiss and ready to go before Sunday.
One of our Seniors is working at the sponsor company and has been working on this project as part of his internship. Dual purposes and he’s learned how to do a lot of machining on cool equipment. Then his grandfather helped him work on some hex axles we needed lathed down for our intake.
So we will be rolling out plan B, Plan C is KitBot so it’s somewhere in-between our real bot and that, and should be interesting. We have never been able to do a preseason event before and I’m excited to get the chance.
We also picked up a remote programming mentor this last week and i think that will be of immense help to us as my time has been spread far too thin to be able to give them as much guidance as they could use.
Two weeks from our first event and we have a robot that should be decently competi— Oh, wait, our first event has the world champs, multiple championship division winners, multiple 2023 regional winners, and lots of perennial top teams.
Two weeks form our first event where we will witness greatness.
I started a new job. It feels like a good fit. It’s a lot of talking to design engineers and suppliers.
My coworker tried to introduce me to someone I had already met. She laughed and said “you know, I was worried when we hired you given the stereotype of engineers, but I’m not worried any more”
Although I got Covid on Tuesday, and have had to miss a whole week of being in the shop during our district’s Mid-Winter Break, which is not a win, I had a chance to step back (kind of) and recover from a natural amount of Late-Build Season burnout.
I am now ready to go full steam ahead, frantically working on everything that must be done before our Week 2 Event.
Robot is finally coming together, a bit later than we hoped but it’s looking promising. There are a few things we need to change, but nothing we can’t handle.
We hit a 4 note, and have a consistent 2 note! Been getting a lot of shooter tuning. Finally finished all our batteries after numerous lug supply issues, turns out you can stick 4 gauge wire into 6 gauge SB50s, but not into 6 gauge terminal lugs.
Also fulfilling my duty as a historian, I found the infamous 3815 actual chassis, the final chassis was not the final chassis .
Me and some good friends went to a restaurant called Beyti last night. It’s somewhere we only make it out to like once a year, it’s a bit far from the city center, and a bit expensive, but we try to make it out there once in a while, because its a wonderful atmosphere and wonderful food. Also it’s where Beyti Kebab was invented, and it’s on the Michelin guide All five of us needed an evening out like that, it was really nice. I was quite stressed and tired before I went, and was like, man do I even want to go out tonight? But I’m so glad I went.
So that’s my weekly win, a nice dinner with good friends.
A full-body shot of a cute, 3D printed robotic penguin, emphasizing the layer lines characteristic of 3D printing across its entire body. This image should capture the penguin in a standing pose, allowing viewers to see the detailed texture of the layer lines from head to toe. The layer lines are subtle yet distinct, showcasing the precision of the 3D printing process. The penguin’s design, with its sleek, futuristic aesthetic, is complemented by the visible layer lines, adding a tactile quality to its appearance. The image should convey the charm and technological innovation of the robotic penguin, highlighting both its adorable aspects and its 3D printed construction.
Busy Week. We continue to iterate on our robot and it looks like we will acquit ourselves nicely at our Week 2 in Sedalia!
We finally got to meet in person the rookie team, Harlan Robotics, that we’ve been helping remotely. They’ve done an amazing job as a small, new team with zero experience coming into this!
Well our robot attended our area’s open house and it didn’t catch fire like last year so +1 on that. All four teams in attendance were able to show off their robots and it looks like everyone will be able to contribute to an alliance.
This year’s minibot is “done” and overall I think it turned out pretty nicely. One of the other mentors had custom fabric made and the angled bumpers really pop.
robot is doing much better than last year, had a nice week off for vacation, and final robot is going together. pocketed bellypan + some time = hot wiring
