Weekly Wins 2020-09-25

Several months ago on the Ewcp slack we found we were getting very negative, to combat this we implemented a policy that on Friday’s we share our wins for the week. These wins can be anything (got a new dog, new job, launched product at work, even something as simple as “got out of bed”). The point is to celebrate positivity and share it with others.

So I wanted to expand it to CD because I think it has had a real impact for us. And I really encourage folks to steal this for their teams or even at work if you notice things are negative.

What wins did you have this week?

I learned how to use the equivalent of Solidworks variables in Autodesk Inventor, and made a belt generator with it. This was great for me since I am primarily a Solidwokrs user, so it was cool to go learn a different software.

WFTW:

  • Spectrum Virtual Pit went well on Saturday. Hope to have more people come next week to ask us questions.

  • Spectrum’s Parent Intro Zoom session was great. We might do these over zoom in future years, easier than having all the parents drive to the school, and easier to record for parents that couldn’t make that time.

  • Training Sessions are going well for the team, there will be a bigger CD post about these later but if people are interested they are all being posted on our YouTube channel as we do them.

  • Personally I got a new van last week, so that’s cool.

I used to do a quick daily “list something you’re thankful for” as part of my planner. My dog was almost always the thing.

My WFTW:

  • Started tutoring/interview prep with a former student, was nice to do something mentor-y again
  • Finally got around to “building” a worm composter and I get my worms today just got my worms!

  • Pandamaniacs have another teacher onboard at one of our other schools.
  • Two negative COVID tests since Fight Night
  • Finally signed the paperwork to become an employee of the University of South Carolina. I’ll start next week if the creek don’t rise.

Honestly this is a great habit to get into and something I think a lot of us need to hear/share with so much negativity floating around.

My WFTW: Had my performance review with my boss at work and got some great feedback about how I’ve been doing!

3512 conducted a design review of our 2020 robot and design practices. It was a very transparent review and we got many great suggestions on how to improve from every member of our technical subteams.

Edit: oh and we got approved for a DoD grant. We are jumping on the Markforged bandwagon!

This reminded me: We have began talks with our school about getting a dedicated space/more room for the team in the second High School that they are building. This is around 10-15 years out so far past my time but exciting nonetheless.
