Weekly Wins 4-29-2022

Posted on behalf of @Andrew_Schreiber who is currently on break:

While I’m enjoying a nice vacation from CD courtesy of an entirely voluntary suspension I’m still going to see your wins…

And now from me? Going on vacation for a little bit before I start my new job. Time to go see my girlfriend

Walked into class holding a 20-odd-page final project.

prof never asked for it.

every group had asked for an extension except us. Feels nice to have the weekend off now.
Also finally got a new shower installed and have to clean that up, so not really off.

Finally started a project at work that’s been behind several others. (The others are “pending stuff”.)

And proceeded to knock out the first third of the job in a day.

Didn’t catch COVID from Champs!

3468 did a Presentation and Demo for Graphic Packaging, and got a $15k sponsorship out of it! So we’re on cloud 9 over it right now!

Also got some positive comments on my Robot Control Buddies at the same presentation!

EDIT: Totally forgot about other cool things this week like my first 3d-print of a model I did, which is a Shower Diverter Gate for my bathtub faucet, so I was able to use my shower again after the original part broke.

I’ve spent the last week near Seattle, visiting friends and relaxing. It’s been a nice week. I’m also really proud of my teams at champs, all things considered they did extremely well.:heart::heart:

Finally got my car back after it had a run in with a mini bus at our week 1 district event.
If you thought FRC parts shortages were rough…

Baseball time is here again! Saw the Iowa Cubs take on the Indianapolis Guardians Football Team Elks Indians (Pittsburgh affiliate) and win in an exciting game.

This also happened:

(Then after the game my dad’s car broke down and that sucked but luckily it got fixed fairly quickly!)

I spent the first Saturday since kickoff doing absolutely nothing. It was glorious!

This was an absolutely incredible week. Let’s go through some of the amazing things that happened, shall we:

Robotics Life
“So, are you coming to World Champs?”
“…”
“What if we had an extra room for you?”

After several emails later, I remember clicking the accept button on my plane ticket to Houston. Huge thanks to Dave from 5484 for convincing me and giving me a room.

I finally got a chance to meet some of the amazing people from my mentor book club in person. They are absolutely amazing people, and I they have helped me through so much in the last few weeks. We had an amazing time in Houston.

“What do we want?”
“CHEER!”
“When do we want it?”
“NOOOOOWWW!!”
Thank you to 1741 and 5484 for helping me create the ultimate cheer squad. After having an amazing time cheering with 5712, they invited me back for their 1pm match. When I asked if they needed anyone else, they responded with “Bring as many people as physically possible.” Everyone for help me storm Roebling for our newfound friends is greatly appreciated.

Watching Finals:

It was stressful when they had to leave. I might not see them for another year. But I appreciated every moment of their time.

And then, the dance music rolled.

Performance life
This weekend was our performance for the Purdue Contemporary Dance Company Spring Show. This weekend has been full of ballet, boba, and bubble wrap!

Don’t forget this…

On a personal note, I was able to attend a free concert with Heart By Heart. They perform the music of the band Heart. The bass player and drummer were in the band when Heart first became popular. They would have been on stage when I attended my first concert in Vancouver back in the late 70’s with one of my cousins. It brought back lots of fond memories.

2 weeks after I started working on PhotonVision, we’ve released a beta version that integrates fiducial markers. These printed patterns offer more robustness and capability in computer vision than the current reflective tape, and don’t need any blinding lights. We also have a few offseasons willing to help demonstrate this new-to-FRC technology, so that’s a huge win.

Which offseason events are taking part, if you’re allowed to reveal that information?

Currently I have Texas Robotics Invitational and Rumble in the Roads signed up, but there’s several other people who are interested in using them at their local events, so I expect that list to grow.

Thanks @krf for both the mandated break and starting this thread in my absence. My wins:

I had a nice break from dealing with certain topics on here, I was getting real annoyed and so going away was a nice vacation.

The other one - managed to avoid any interactions with the bunch of gun toting whackos convoying up and down the west coast lately in spite of them apparently taking shots at an overpass just down the highway from me.

I somehow lost 10lbs while at Buckeye Regional, but today I officially gained it all back.

The bulk continues.

We had nine review packets (one for each unit) for the Calculus AP exam. Just finished and turned in the last one, so I’m not feeling terrible about taking the test.
