Wow, it’s almost August. That means someone certainly did something they are proud of and want to share? What are you wins this week? Big or small.
My win - I made some progress in the software stack for a personal project - got the first end to end from config → sim through a few layers of controllers (a mock gait controller sending foot positions and an IK controller solving for joint positions)
And because progress isn’t linear - I screwed up offsets and limits somewhere when I brought IK into the mix and it’s not happy. And this is why I dev in simulation instead of on hardware.
Although technically last week, we celebrated my daughter’s first birthday! She had a great time seeing everyone and she even had a few of her school friends come and stop by. Planning and executing a child’s birthday party is very exhausting but incredibly rewarding. Love this kid.
Congrats to both of you and @asha_forever on figuring out gendery stuff! Good luck on your journeys! I still working through it myself (Honestly, there should be a trans programmer group chat somewhere since I swear half the programmers I talk to are trans.)
I got my stitches out today, which is really nice, and I’m finally allowed to take a full shower again tomorrow. I miss washing my hair so much. I’ve been trying to keep it clean with wet wipes for the past two weeks, but each time I lean on the glass on the metro I see how ineffective that has been, and I feel real bad for making a mess. But that’s over
I made a nice dinner for friends yesterday and we played ticket to ride which was nice, and I was able to get myself out to a work meeting at a nice little cafe on the Bosphorus which was nice.
Normally I’d walk all the way there from home, but I opted for 3 trains and a shorter walk instead because I’m not quite to the point of walking that far again yet. I did a long walk last weekend, and, well, it took a lot out of me, so It’ll be a little while before I try that again But I’m getting there.
Got into school machine shop to do inventory. Going to be a long, challenging process.
Got into robot room so students could work. Have MaxSwerve build 90% complete.
Ocean has warmed up enough to surf in shorts. Still foggy/cloudy most of the day though. (Sorry for literally 99.999% of you who are melting in the heat).
We had a cool down station / fundraising stand / outreach tent at the top of the last big hill where the 50th anniversary RAGBRAI came into town. RAGBRAI draws about 30,000-50,000 participants from every state and a bunch of countries, so we got to chat with lots of people (many who stopped were FIRSTies).
Got to go to the Dean’s List Summit this weekend! It was a great time getting to meet and become friends with all of the other winners, and visiting Dean’s House and hearing insight from all of the suppliers at the supporters summit dinner was incredible (even if it did mean embarrassing myself in front of @Andy_Baker with my lack of lobster eating knowledge ). All of the other winners are incredible people, and I hope we’ll all get another chance to see each other some day in the future. It was a great few days that I will never forget.
