Early thread this week proving I can occasionally do things before 11pm local time. I’m not going to promise it next week though…
What wins you got? Cool offseason projects? Cool personal things? Did you wake up on time every day? All valid.
Weird weekly win - I am now unemployed. Today was my last day working at my (now former) employer and I don’t start a new role for a few weeks. For the first time in my professional life I’m taking time between jobs. I’m also taking that time and going on a nice vacation. Not going to lie, it’s a bit sad too - I liked my coworkers they were great (still are, I just won’t be seeing them daily).
The other week aside from vacation is going to be finally finishing unpacking and moving my laser cutter and printers into a different room so it’s not sharing a wall with my bedroom.
Went on vacation to Hocking Hills and did most of the things we wanted too see, rain ended some of our plans, but generally very fun. I am still learning CAD though, I hope to propose an internal CAD learning session tommorow in our team.
My van’s been having some starting problems, but I got a battery charger for it, charged it from 70% to 95% and it started (instead of struggling or straight up refusing to start). Thankfully the auto parts store is within walking distance (but the hill is pretty brutal).
This week I finalized some items for the IRI charity auction. This year’s lot is a little more mobile than previous years. I had to balance some form and function but overall I took a shot and I think it’s just about a slam dunk. There might be some theming going on. Happy bidding!
I got a drawing package approved and in the outbox to a vendor (via one of the other folks at my work). Now to resume working on what I was working on.
I turned 18 yesterday. I still can’t believe how fast it came, but I’m excited to see the possibilities now! We held our last session the same day before we take the rest of the summer off, so I made cupcakes for my teammates and were sure popular as they were all gone! Because of that (and I guess somewhat a super cool gift), I took our protobot home to work on for the rest of the summer, which has our swerve drive fitted on it. The goal is to get that reliability working while porting our previous C++ code to Java. Can’t wait to mess around with it.
I finally got home to the megakent. I get to hang out with my two cats, sleep in my own bed, etc. I’ve been home for about two weeks since April 18th ish, so I’m super happy to be home.
Drove back to LA on the 4th. Got the 5th off so spent the whole day at Disneyland + California Adventure. Currently working on some pistachio pinwheel cookies since I brought the cookbook I got for Christmas back up to LA with me.
