I think it’s football season? But it’s definitely black cat season, my three have been lounging around like they pay rent.
Who has some good wins this week? Cool pre-season projects? Late off season wins?
My win is that I had a productive week at work and there TOTALLY isn’t a series of commits that look like “do the thing”, “add logging because it’s not doing the thing”, “ok now it’s working and I don’t know why so remove the logging?”… You can’t prove there is, and neither can my coworkers once I squash the commits before I push it…
And because I mentioned the cats, cat tax… this is the youngest of the trio, the tailless wonder, just lounging on the back of the couch.
I found out someone already did the thing I was working on a year ago! While that means I didn’t come up with anything new in the end, I’ve now pivoted to working on something different that was my end goal with the project anyway!
My camera kit showed up for my K1 so now I can remote monitor prints and do fun timelapses. Usually I have to set up a wyze cam and a remote power plug for my cncs and printers. This is the first time I’ve had one come as a built in feature and I like it a lot.
Other win is we did really well on phase 1 of a project at work and are getting asked to quote a double the size phase 2. Both are AI vision systems for counting totes. 2015 prepared me for this well.
Bonus Flexi-cat… for clogging your interwebz
Edit: got my color change PLA for fall coasters. Red when hot, purple when cold. Bonus bonus win
Was told by my principal yesterday that “all orders are approved” and will be going through in the next month or so for CTE courses. Guess that means in addition to getting new MaxSwerve modules (arrived yesterday) I’ll be getting a set of CoDrones, a VEX classroom bundle, and a Makera Carvera… in time.
Have 30+ new interested students for this year. We’ll see how many make it to Monday’s meeting.
We got our first priority regional. Along with the other three schools in my school district (taking over OCR!).
As of today my foot injury (not a win) is improving. Sprained toe? Turf toe? Sesamoiditis? If the pain keeps going away it’ll remain a “work out injury”.
Got into our first choice regional, where we currently seem to be the strongest team based on statbotics from 2023 (though I know of at least 4 teams coming in round 2 who will absolutely eat our lunch).
Other than that, I’m hard approved for 2 regionals, soft approved for 2 regionals, and waiting to hear back from 1 more regional + champs!
My wife and made a day trip to the Toledo Zoo. We hadn’t been there for years. We got to see a number of animals that we don’t usually get to see. The almost-year-old polar bear cubs were adorable.
Yesterday I got vaccines for Covid, Flu, Shingles and Pneumonia. Not sure yet if that was a Good Thing ™ or not. Today’s going to be a slow day.
The start of the week was pretty rough but it’s our experiences that make us what we are.
Wins for the week: a product I’ve been working on since the end of the year last year is finally in stock and our team is back to normal (normal is a weird thing to consider a win but idc).
STEM-fest today at the University I am at. Launched a weather balloon (into clear skies and high pressure lol). Elementary school kids had a great time at least.
Made progress on the team’s mill maintenance. Surprisingly to me, I didn’t need to remove the table… but the X backlash is virtually gone now (was .020 or so, is .005). Now to hit the other axis next time, and a couple other things…
External factors pretty much dictated that we needed a Week 1 or Week 2 Regional – and we got our first choice, Central Missouri!
Looking forward to competing there for the first time!
Broke a whole bunch of stuff on the robot during drive team tryouts/practice. I’m counting this as a win as it should mean we bring a more robust robot to Cow Town Throw Down in a few weeks.
