weigh ins

there are a few different aspects to our robot this year (there’s a pic in the gallery if you want to see them) but we will be over weight if we use both at the same time. i was told tonight that it is possible (or maybe necessary) to weigh in each different subsystem. can any teams that have had this situation in the past let us know? thank you.

we were just wondering if we can just interchange one subsystem for another. on example of this was Wildstang’s bot from 2001. how did the inspection process work for that??

I’m under the impression that you need to present and weigh-in with every combination of mechanisms and apparatus that you’d plan to use on your robot at a given time.

yeah, but what they’re saying is that they might not using both apparati (haha) at the same time. I dunno, its a good question, but FIRST will probably say no.

Right. In that case, it’d be viewed as two unique arrangements and should be weighed as such. Weigh once with one part, weigh again with the second.

My understanding was that everything that would ever possibly used on the robot had to make weight in one weigh in. That doesn’t make much sense but first could be wierd like that. A good jive forum question.

I think the usual proceedure is to weigh in separately with each different set of apparatti (I hope I spelled that right). You don’t have to have everything on at once unless you plan to go on the field that way.

That’s also my understanding of the rules. Ask FIRST to be sure, and let the rest of us know! :wink:

After being an inspector at 2 regional competition and Championship event last year, I can safely say that robots with multiple mechanisms (which the robot only use 1 at a time) will be weighted by what goes on the field at a time. As long as your robot is under 130 lbs when you get on the field, you are ok.

It doesn’t make sense for FIRST to tell teams to weight everything at once. Spare motors and other spare parts can be viewed as components the robot will be using, so that would mean putting 20 motors and 20 batteries on (if you have that many) and weight with the robot at the same time.
