When you share a lot of meals with your team during build season, it’s not uncommon for the topic of favorite foods to be brought up at some point. When I mentioned that I liked to eat chicken dipped in applesauce, I was shocked to find that so many people on my team found that to be really strange. Growing up, my family used it eat chicken (and veal) this way all of the time, so I never thought much about it. I mean, people eat apples with pork. Is it really that much of a stretch to eat applesauce and chicken? Then I learned that my teammates like to eat grilled cheese with grape jelly and bacon, drink ranch by itself, and put cheese in their hot chocolate!
Are there any foods that you enjoy that your teammates think you are strange for liking? Do your teammates enjoy foods that you find to be odd? Does anyone else in the world eat applesauce with their chicken, or is it really as strange as my teammates tell me it is?
In 2020 one of our kids found out his mother packed him a full sized cobbler in his suitcase to take to competition with him. I heard it was peach flavored and after spending all day in a suitcase it wasn’t very good. That’s irrelevant however.
I’ve never had applesauce with chicken, but when I smoke turkeys I stuff them with apples and (using just a fork) make a wonderful smoked applesauce that I like at lest as much as cranberry sauce!
I also put taco sauce on my fish po-boys rather than tartar or or cocktail or remoulade.
Man if you’re gonna post about mayoreo at least give me and 852 credit smh my head /j in the Bay Area some teams make kids eat Oreos with Mayo as the filling based on a running joke me and some teammates bad but it’s totally not hazing and since calgames ‘21 we’ve been trying to convert as many people as possible
I made mug cakes for some teammates out of a hotel room at the 2018 Idaho Regional. Suffice it to say it was as chaotic of a process as it sounds. TSA swabbed the flour on the way back down but at point I didn’t wanna deal with the hassle of repacking it back in my carry-on.
