I’m happy to offer Chairman’s Award and Woodie Flowers Awards submission assistance for the 2016 season for any FRC student participant who would like a review of their work.
Mentors, please feel free to let your students know about this opportunity.
I will review for redundancy, spelling or grammatical errors, inconsistencies, and other common issues. I can also give pointers on the structure your essay. You are obviously not committed to using any of my corrections or suggestions - this is strictly peer review. All I need is a Microsoft Word (.doc) file or Google Docs link of your award submission for the 2016 Stronghold season. I’ll send back an edited copy with my recommendations and advice.
Here’s what you need to know:
-
The confidentiality of your submission will be kept - I do not share your essay with anyone.
-
I typically have your submission back to you within 36-48 hours, or warn you in advance if it will be longer.
-
I will edit and re-edit as many revisions of your entry as you would like. On average I read about 2-3 essays per team, but I think the record is about 14 revisions.
You are welcome to nitpick.
-
I will make suggestions, offer advice on your phrasing, and edit basic grammatical errors, but you must write the actual *content *for the submission yourself.
I am a 15-year FIRST veteran who believes strongly in teaching effective communication skills alongside developing students’ interests in STEM education. I have assisted with hundreds of essays over the years and there have been many successful submissions as a result of peer reviews and hard work. I’ve also had some success with teams who speak limited English - I can help to refine your essay for grammar and phrasing to make it easier for native English speakers to read.
If you’re interested, please feel free to contact me via PM or ammorrison [at] gmail [dot] com.
Best wishes to all of you submitting for awards this season!
Amanda
