What are some of the best robot names you've heard?

From what I’ve seen in reveal videos, naming robots is quite common in FRC. Robot names seem to cover the spectrum from wacky to intimidating, so I wondered – what are your favorite names that teams (including your team) have had for their robots?

Our team is fortunate enough to have the recourses to make two robots every year. One practice bot, and one comp bot. This means we often get to choose two names & often we name off of greek & roman gods. Picking one we like to represent & then picking the greek and roman equivalents. So for example we picked the gods of luck. tyche and moira.

We made a very colorful robot in 2020 and called it: “Bot Ross”

There’s a nice picture in the Artsy Robot picture thread.

We named a FTC robot “Squeaky” because our first version of it had a shifting gearbox that squeaked terribly. The gearbox was removed after our first competition, but the name stuck.

We had a robot named that too! Let’s just say it was our 2015 bot, and the radio name is all that exists now…

In 2022 we named our monkey bar climbing robot Bandar, which means “monkey” in Hindi. The funny part was, after the MC’s were told its meaning, they repeated this fact every match and it eventually started driving the students crazy, almost to the point where they wanted to change its name on the spot.
Luckily this settled out over the summer, but as a last hurrah I convinced the MC at Beach Blitz off-season event in late 2022 to announce the “fact” again as a matter of point when introducing the team during elimination rounds, which appeared to trigger some “traumatizing” memories from earlier in the year for some of the returning students. It was pretty funny.

I would be surprised if anyone in attendance at that event didn’t know this fact. I thought it was hilarious. That particular GA loves robot names as they also kept saying 1197’s ham-fisted 2022 robot name over and over again.

W19-001 (ROBOT ASSEMBLY, TOP LEVEL).SLDASM was definitely one of my favorites.
We’ve also had a lot of (insert name here)osaurus names.
Slidewinder was another excellent name.
Oh, and The Black Knight (after somehow going after all major mechanisms were heavily damaged)

Our robot this year was Duck 'N Cover. Mostly as a result of shooting cubes and our fearless driving that made you want to, well, duck and cover.

Our robot this year was named SirenZ because the stall siren on our Falcons would continuously go off

254’s Sideways(2022). Very appropriate name considering how they climbed the hanger that year

1678’s Margie(2022). I like dog names

4414’s Tsunami(2023). Aside from sounding cool their bot was shaped like a triangle which kinda made it look like a tsunami

I always thought it was in reference to the “Moving sideways is a waste of time” quote but I have no idea whether that’s true or not. Either way, it’s still my favorite robot name.
