What are the off-season events in and around Texas?

I’m pushing for my team to go an off-season event this year. I’d like to compile a list of off-season events around us (we being located in the Dallas/Richardson Texas area). I think this will be a great opportunity for our team. The reason I would like to know this early is because if we know early enough we may be able to raise enough money for event costs and convince our mentors to take us.

I would like to know the Date/Location/Name of the event/Event entry fee.

I’ll start:
26th-27th/Anderson High School, Austin, Texas/2013 Texas Robot Roundup/$200

TRR is the only one in Texas, but is awesome. Its like a state championship. Very competitive though.

Arkansas is right next door and is a lot smaller/more relaxed/ and doesn’t follow the current FIRST alliance draft rules so the alliances in elims are more “fair”. Its where you go if you’re looking more for fun and relaxing than heated competition.

Last year Texas Torque 1477 held Houston FIRST Fall Remix at their high school. I don’t know if they plan on hosting it again this year, but it could be worth investigating

Shoemaker High School in Killeen, Texas
Is hosting an off-season event for FLL, FTC and FRC on May 18, 2013.
Sponsored by Northrop Grummon this event is Free.

Seems pretty early for an offseason event…

It’s perfect since some of our mentors can’t do late summer. Besides, champs is over by that time. AP exams are also over.

The offseason competition circuit starts pretty early in some parts of the country.

In New England / the Northeast, it’s often possible to attend 2-3 offseason events within a few hours drive before that school year is over. During the late spring and early fall, there is often an offseason competition nearly every weekend, sometimes multiple events only a few hours drive apart on the same weekend.

To clarify, so people don’t get the wrong idea, Torque hosted the Fall Remix, it was sponsored by all of the Lone Star Regional sponsors. It’s actually free for teams, but it’s an invitation only event.

There will be another remix this fall, but the scheduling hasn’t been worked out yet.

For clarification, the Shoemaker event sponsored by Northrop Grumman is an off season demonstration event, not a full-field competition. The demonstration is an opportunity for teams to practice with other robots, collaborate, and share FIRST robotics with the community. The event will provide awards for tournament-like play.

We are planning on hosting an event in Baton Rouge, Louisiana this year called the Red Stick Rumble. It will largely be for Louisiana/Mississippi teams but we will consider Texas teams as well.
