red team red team! blue team blue team! Oh wait, that doesnt work anymore. Are we going to hear a mess of ‘team 70! team 65! team 47!’ all at once? “balance! balance!” doesnt have the same ring to it. I was gonna try get our cheerleaders to come this year too!
Any ideas?

Theres no Amano against Amano so your right Bill, what are we going to cheer for. I can see the crowd going to sleep during games as the excitement will be gone.
It will be the same as cheering for one color of paint to dry faster than the other three.
This year only the computers will be busy trying to figure out a mind boggling scoring system, and tell me why would a team put any color 30" ball other than their own on top of a goal.
Just my disapointed thoughts, give me a game against a bot that I can see.
Oh well there always next year.

I happen to like the tune to “Go US!” or “Lets go! Let’s Go! CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP” How about just cheering based on what goes on in the game? “Dont let the goal roll” or “Our alliance wobbles but it wont fall down!” For robots damaged and on the stretcher: “Medic! Medic!” “Tilt the ramp the other way! Save the game with time delay!” How about “Hit stop now!” or “Stop the clock! Stop the clock!” Maybe “Dean your mind is warped, our new playing field taught. But we will win with robot kin cause this is not a sport!” Bah. My brain is outta it. But I gotta beat Kate and Colleens post counts

As I said before, this year’s game is really a show of skills. Really similar to science fair. But you know what, it’s going to be so much fun designing and building the robot. And when maximum scores appear in the game, people are going to be really exciting about it.

You ever watch golf? That what this is… You play to get a better score than the other guy…

I know that unless we’re really impressed, we’ll be asking at the forum to kick the action up a couple of notches… a nod to years past… there’s no confusing FIRST with BattleBots but fuzzy pink flowers and hugging are going too far…

I know that we’ll plan for alternatives and remember that the postseason will bring any rules we agree on…

Another analogy one can make (maybe a bit more appropiate) is that this game looks like bowling, because in golf you are playing against a standard score, while bowling is simply getting the most pins hitted.

About Battle Bots, I believe this year they are trying to make sure the image that FIRST is a different think shows, and that is exactly what happened.

Well… my view is that you’ll have a strategy attached to your machine, you’ll have built that thing to do a certain set of things, so your first match will set your personal standard… then you can do better against yourself…

ok. maybe i’m reaching, but i like golf better than bowling (plus i really like Jessica’s whispering announcer commentary…)

I think i’ll be doing the polite golf clap thing after a match, but even golf has superstars and i think it’ll show… We’ll see something really cool and we’ll stand behind it.

I dont know, wouldnt it be funny if there was no cheering, like in golf? And wouldnt it be funnier if the announcer whispered to fit in?

That’d be the funniest… that would seriously cheer me up… if i were stage crew, i’d bring in one of those yellow “quiet” signs like the guys on the greens have and hold it up before the match…

warm and fuzziest game ever…

lol, I would be so amused. But then I think it would be even funnier because you’d hear the robot noises. Last year when our robot hung, a ratchet-type thing engaged with the gear on the arm and made these big “CLACK! CLACK! CLACK!” noises. It sounded like it was about to fall apart…and I think if it weren’t for the loud music I’d be a little embarrassed about that.

So true! Despite my initial disappointment with the game, there will still be just as much fun in the design process. Surely there will also be lots of cool robots at the competition, and many enviable designs, and of course much to be learned.
