I was just wondering what happens to some of the other FIRST-aholics after nationals happens? Do you go into hibernation, do you curl up into a ball in the corner and hum for 8 months, or do you just go into shock and wander around, dazed, until next year’s kickoff?
Welp we take a break then this year I think after a week or two break we are going to start on other projects and what better time to fundraise…
We usually clean up the room a bit. Organize.
Fix the robot.
Do some demonstrations trying to get sponsors. Test new ideas.
It ends by like mid May though - then its having way too much time on my hands till next kick off.
Get the bot and the team ready for the PARC!
I know what I’ll be doing… making plans for buttons and costumes and noisemakers for next year! muahahahaha! That, plus annoying all my non-robotics friends with stories from robotics!
go home. Take finals and finish school for the year. IRI and then more school in august.
I sit at the computer constantly refreshing the FIRST site waiting until the first saturday in January.
Get a job, figure out what to do.
two words… MINI COMPS!!!
Heh, we want to rebuild this year’s robot. Preferably so that it’ll work. Not that it doesn’t work now. But um, making it better would be cool. Other than that… More design challenges, cleaning of the shop, and running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Fixing the wood bandsaw would be good too… Oh, and WRRF Cal Games in the fall.
Go home.
Sit.
Analyze our team.
See what needs to be improved, who deserves to be praised etc.
And stuff as such. well err…maybe homework too… thats optional… Robotics FIRST:cool:
p.s.maybe SLEEP too
Off season Comps…
Beantown Blitz
PARC
Battlecry @WPI
Mayhem on the Merrimack
Rally in the Valley
IRI
w00t!
-Aaron
Actually the week after Nationals I’m going on a trip to Gattlenburg (sp?) with the band at our school.
- Work on my Eagle Project and finish all that up
- IRI
:]
well seeing as we arent going to nationals and our seasonis over, i would have to say i keep looking on CD for something interesting, and do some other projects
Woooo! Mini-comps!
The very best reason for living in New England…there are so many of them
But as for other things to do?
- finalize my internship/jobs to pay for the time Im missing at the internship if I do go unpaid
- start seriously planning for the job search in the fall (since that’s when most strategy firms start looking)
- get some sleep!
- save some money up to go to cool things like IRI, Kickoff 05, Nats 05…
- oh yeah, and do that thing I never have time to do now…read.
There is only one thing to do when the electronics season runs dry! DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION! All day, every day. I’m wearing my DDR shirt to nationals: come up and give me a hug if you can’t dance without arrows.
Besides that, a lot of stuff. NYC with the band the weekend after, Nashville for a retreat, then home for a while. Can’t do IRI cause of camp, but soon I’ll be on the roads! Bwwahahah!
Umm…die? From boredom, that is. Well, I think I’ll take all of the hundreds of hours of work I could be putting into a robot and build other things, like finish my pond, get a job, do a engineering mentorship at Drexel (if I get in that is), that kinda thing. Maybe just build my own movable things…I could so do that. I just start talking about set screws one day and how they’re so annoying…and everyone looks at me like I’m crazy. They of course aren’t into robotics, so they have no clue what one is…
Well as annyoing as set screws are, The best thing to do is a prototype / experiment for next year, and dont forget the off sesaon competitions if you dont have any in your area you should really look into getting some started.
Just as Jessica had said before New England is full of them Theres the Beantown Blitz and not to plug it or anything The Bash at the beach put on by (236 & 521) and many more. Heh FIRST NEVER ENDS its great, and plus you can still waste 98.6 % of your life on chief delphi anyway, on or off season there are too many addicted hah !!!
Probably just sit around and mop till summer is in. Then I go to china to go visit my relatives. All of them are in china. I still have to get my driver’s lisence. And most of my time I’ll probably spend here. Whatever it takes to make it to next year. Oh yes sleep is good. Have fun everyone.
Those activities all sound a lot more interesting than what I had planned…Work work work… bleh. But I’ll have UberBling next season so I can buy pizza when I’m hungry…maybe even save some for the team this time. :yikes:
