What Are YOUR Favorite FRC Robots (Pre 2020)

This thread made me curious. What are some cool/unique robots that come to mind from before 2020?

I am a fan of 1114 2019 robot Snowstorm. It was extremely high performing but its design could have been built by a medium-low resource team.

I’m not sure why, but the 2005 179 robot always comes up in my mind as one of the most memorable robots of the past. Their fork for picking up tetras was really good.
67 that yr too.

25 had a really good Aim High robot if I recall

Of course 71 goes without saying.

Generic pick but I don’t care.

The one, the only, 254’s 2018 bot.

2018 FRC Season – FIRST Power Up | Team 254

Undefeated in official play with the forklift style buddy climb. Absolute unit in my opinion.

2019

  • 971: Such a cool and unique design to use suction to hold both game pieces. No matter how much the pieces flailed around it never let go.

2017

  • 340: One of my all time favorite specialty robot designs. Super effective gear scoring robot.

2016

  • 330: I will never forget the the self-righting at champs to win Einstein’s matches.

2013

  • 610: Even when we faced them at Granite State (their first event of the season) they were already on another level even at that event.

As a high school student watching 233 in 2006 was unbelievable.

Team 40 robots in the early/mid 2000’s were incredible.

1717 doesn’t get as much mention anymore, but they built some of the best robots of the early 2010’s era.

67’s 2012 robot will always be one of my favorites

It’s funny to look back at some of these older robots, it was a much different challenge with few cots parts.

Though I was still a good amount of years away from joining FRC during this time, based on my historical knowledge and personal liking, these are my favorite robots.

2018: 254; 4613

2017: 118; 1986

2016: 330; 2056

will always be my favorite robot of all time… very competitive and the first to do everything that’s standard practice years later. The subsystem collision avoidance is :chef’s kiss:

118 from 2018 will probably always be my favorite

I’m sensing a theme with this specific team in this thread, but 1114’s “Simbot Jordan” from 2012 is one of my all time favourites.

I still remember seeing that robot for the first time that year (my rookie year), and being in absolute awe. THAT was the kind of robot I wanted to aspire to be able to build; Clean. Simple. Robust.

Also an honorable mention for 1717’s 2012 bot. I’ve still got a scale wooden model somewhere of that machine from the IRI auction in 2017

I’m 100% stan of 71’s chokehold bot. Brilliant.
