How much compression does your team use to intake cubes and how much for cones? And if your bot doesn’t use the best compression, what do you think the best compression is?
Our claw manipulator can crank down to 1 inch but usually does not go that closed. In prototyping, we found that for a dual roller everybot design with 30A wheels 2-inch wheels 2.75 inch was the best for cones.
Our intake has 3" compression on cubes, that’s assuming a 9.5" diameter.
That’s too much IMO.
Not sure what the “number” is, but it is plenty. At our 1st regional we were dropping cones, so for our second we replaced (1) 0.5625" piston with (2) 1.125" pistons – now we can crush a whole stack of cones and it’s near impossible for a person to rip a cone out now.

What are you saying has a 9.5” diameter? The wheels/rollers on your roller intake?

We use 3in green compliant wheels with 10in wheel center-center for cubes and 4in center-center for cones
We compress until the forces in our claw reach equilibrium. That is to say, our pneumatically driven gripper will fully close if nothing is in its grasp, and the only thing stopping it from doing so during normal gameplay is the game objects.
When you say 10 inches, is that from the center to center of each compliance wheel?

We didn’t apply a ton of pressure but added suction at the base of our claw while the arm was in motion. Early season prototyping we ran suction alone (no claw) and we were able to place cones and cubes reliably. The challenge was you couldn’t run the vacuum generator continuously so we needed something mechanical to hold the game pieces at least at rest.
