I was wondering what kind of work, or play, does your team do? Like community service, fundraising, trips, ect. My team, 648, just finished up with their first of about 5 or 6 community service acts. We did a marsh clean-up and pulled about 100 tires from under a local bridge. That was only about 1/4 of them. We are also planning a Mississippi River clean-up in our area. So, what do you do?
Lets see, over the summer our team does a lot. We have a banquet for all of our sponsors where we give them an over view of the season, shirts, and a certificate. I think we might give awards to the place that supported us the most. We are planning to have two summer school sessions for middle schoolers to raise money. We are going to be working with lego kits and the edurobotics kits. Basicaly teaching the kids about robotics and advrtising our team so they either plan to join our lego leagues or our tem once they enter high school. We also have meetings for unfinished buisness evry sunaday. During the season we were planning on having a four wheel drive system for our robot. Yeah, umm, that didnât work out. LOL. We are going to perfect and build the design over the summer so we can do it next year. We also plan our goals for how many new members we want next year we start recruiting. We mostly target females to get involved. Umm, what else, total reorganizeation of the cage. (Tool shed within the autoshop) We are going to try to make some kind of program where the team mates check out the tools. Donât know if we can get it working. We also repair the âChampâ (2001 national champion) and jaws (2003 LA finalist robot) for expeditions. I think that is all.
This Friday is our team banquet. We give awards to sponsors, mentors, and students and then we all dance till midnight. Coming up we have YpsiPride day which is a big city-wode clean up. Iâm not sure what other community service projects weâll be doing, but I know there are at least a few more. We also a lot of demonsrations in the summer. In August is the big Heritage Festival event with 66. 3 days of robots! yay! But I wonât be here for it
We also just finished our team banquet last Wednesday. We handed out many awards to team members.
I got a thong as an award. The story goes⌠We were at a party at a members house. When I wasnt looking, the guys, snuck up behind me and gave me a major wedgey. Like pulling me across the lawn and tearing my underwear. So they replaced them. I think it was more embarassing for them to by the thong than for me to go up and recieve it. Also, in Chicago, we âadoptedâ a member from another team. When we were doing the Electric Slide, a female team member just happened to âcop a feelâ on his rear end. And we just happened to get a picture of it. Needless to say, that was her reward.
