Per the tittle, does anyone have some solid information on what is going on at West Valley? The event is currently 3+ hours behind schedule. The original schedule had Friday matches going through #47, as of now 13 matches have been played.
I’m curious about this too. What’s going on in Spokane?
I’m tempted to make the 1.5 hour drive north.
In addition to that, the stream isn’t working correctly at all - their stream box appears to be broken, as their video is blank and the audio cuts in and out.
TBA shows ranking of teams with 4 matches, but the schedule only shows 17 matched played…
Hey, we are currently at West Valley.
The field wasn’t done till like 1pm. Its that bad.
Their streaming box is also broken it seems (was asked on the discord to check, that is what I was told) so its pretty intermittent. If anyone in PNW is reading this, they probably need a little extra help. They’re scrambling hard to make this event work, and its only now starting to go smooth. We are still seriously behind and I’m not sure what the plan is tonight on if we are going to go past 8. Ill do my best to reply to any questions, but being drive coach I don’t always have the room to do so.
Thanks for the update Mikal, I’m sure I’m not the only one who appreciates some first hand insight. Any idea on what caused the field to be completed so far behind schedule?
something related to the computers for the field, According to our field reset volunteers.
They are expecting to get to match 40 tonight (8-8:30st)
All 3 FiM events are running hours behind. Kettering 1 only completed 32 matches. 23 to make up tomorrow, plus the 27 that were already scheduled, plus playoffs.
Was this due primarily to late start like West Valley, or were there other forces at work?
Don’t know. I’m not there, I’m just getting reports.
if you’re meaning like waiting on us, I doubt it. 2he time difference.
Maybe similar reasons though.
Kettering 1- For one we received a very large number of wrong or missing parts that had to be overnighted to us. In addition everything involving motors was very finicky and required a great deal of maintenance to resolve (motors being in the serializer and the rotors for the aircraft).
Once we started matches we had an obnoxiously high cycle time because none of the robots had been tested on the field, many had outdated driver stations, many labview teams did not know to run as startup. Near the end of the day things started to normalize dramatically but were pretty far in the hole.
there are only 30 teams there, so they should be up on average every 5 matches.
From what I hear this year’s game is brutal for field assembly as well as field reset…
I’ve been chatting with my dad, who is the Tech Director, and he confirmed what’s on this thread. The stream will hopefully be up by tomorrow.
Please tell you dad 4513 thanks him and His team a ton for everything they have done this weekend. It has to be stressful and we appreciate everything they have done for west valley this weekend.
There were a lot of issues that lead to starting really late (eg no one got final inspected till Friday, the field had issues, there were issues with firmware updates) but we did end up getting through round 40 (at 9:00 PM). Everyone was very tired
So West Valley has passed but I just want to share my side of the story. I Volunteered from friday - saturday. I was told that an entire crate of field parts went missing. FIRST doesnt know where it went, FIRSTWA doesnt know where it went. The Volunteers and some teams (I cant remember their numbers) helped build the field thursday night and were up till 2am. From what I heard they were actually manufacturing the missing parts.
