What I Learned In FIRST This Year...

Hi all!

Its friday, I am bored, so I decided to be a little creative. Here are a few equations that you may or may not be able to relate to.

What I learned in FIRST this year…

  1. Gearbox X 2 = Heavy

  2. Einstien Field Sound System + Curie Field Sound System = Bargled

  3. (Robots + Steps) = Tipsy = (Robot + Ball)

  4. Beatty + Hammond = Gold Metal ^ 4

  5. (Contraversy / 2) + Gracious Professionalism = Cheesy Poofs and Kingman

  6. Dave Lavery + Pimp Hat = Funny! (Thats Pimp Dave)

  7. Bowling + 121 = New Shirt for Andy

  8. Northeast - Defense = Midwest :wink:

  9. Kindergarten = Hard

  10. I = JVN

  1. Curie + Mark Leon = t3h awesome
  2. East coast - good teams = west coast
    (Yeah, there were plenty of good west coast teams, and we’re from the west coast, so don’t flame me. I was just surprised that 11 of the 12 teams that made it to Einstein were from east of the Mississippi.)

  1. 3 weeks of design + 1 week of waiting for parts = 2 weeks of build=not good cuz we get kicked out @ 11

  2. not having a robot for UTC scrimmage + using last year’s robot = winning it? (strange but true)

  3. totally reorganizing= a lot of work for years to come, not just this past year

  4. hanging onto the past + not being ready for the future = trouble in team

  3. One Team + (Other Team) - Sponsorship] = Compromise + (True Teamwork)

  1. 3-jointed arm mechanism + programming it to respond to model arm controller = hard and time consuming

  2. 3-jointed arm mechanism + programming it to respond to model arm controller + incorrectly bringing in the analog input and not knowing it = extremely hard and time consuming

  3. food tickets + spending them = no change

  4. crazy senior + tiki mask + elevator + chair + duct tape = photo opportunity

  5. Mr. Cokeley + stroke medications = idea for “cool squad”

  6. freshman + battery + curiosity = :ahh:

  1. 486 laptop + programming robot = not gonna work :mad:

  2. Big Inflatable Balls = NOT for jumping on :frowning:

  3. Looking for fasteners the first time rather than ripping off old bot < repairing old bot after season :ahh:

  4. High Speed = much more fun that low speed.

  1. 67 + 406 = a whole lotta fun*
  2. 30" ball - 5" at nationals = bot that can’t grab ball
  3. 50 floor aviary + parachute guy + glass elevator = cool
  4. completely open hotel inside + many FIRST teams = “heeeeeeeeey!” + midnight
  5. 50 floor staricase = 2student + mentor + running up
  6. Doubler ball + 1241’s basket = awesome play
  7. 340 + 1126 = awesome alliance

*406’s sponsor, Denso, left them this year. They paid financially, but provided no mentorship. In the past, the Denso engineers had built the bot, so none of the students really knew how to build one. 406 asked for help, and 67 responded by letting them work in our shop with our mentors. In a way, they became part of our team. It was a great experience, for the first time they designed and built their robot, and won their first FIRST trophey. Plus, even though we weren’t at the detroit regional, we got to go so we could cheer for them. Go Mustangs!
