What I Learned In FIRST This Year...

2003 Season Hiatus + that first moment when I showed up at a regional this year = Welcome Home.

uneducated/annoying newbies + smiting tool = entertainment :evil:

Me + Palmetto = O_O
Me + Championship two weeks later = :slight_smile:

(Me + Controls)2 + Other Robots = Many Needed Repairs :ahh:

me + robot conrols = craziness
real drivers + controls = nice win
67 + 340 + 1126= buckeye and newton champs
webster thomas high + webster schroder high = FIRST unity, the two huge rivals in everything
6" step + omni wheels = easy at times
6" step + robot there = repairs in pits
pit crew chief + enjoys to see every match in person = loss of weight, woo hoo haha
xerox mentor + 5 laptops in one car = lots of stuff to talk about at the pit stop

35 students + 13 mentors + 2 kits of parts + 6 weeks = one awesome robot

  • (CD.com) + (April Fool’s Day) = (Confused People) + (NFL ownership of FIRST)

  • (Amount of aluminum needed during the season) = (Initial amount of aluminum) x [1 + (Weekly percent growth of aluminum purchase)]^(Days since kickoff)/7]

  • 20(Random people from different teams) + (Omni at nats) + 1(Hot tub filled with water) = Overflow + 20(Squished) + 1[Hot tub - 0.5(water)]

red+orange+yellow+blue+pink+green (or just plain old tie-dyed)=bright colors!

WildStang all year round= Alot of work!

________________________________ = Pretty Nice Animation
Time spent on games

confused team captains + not keeping track of picked teams = CRAZY alliance pickings

College Advisor + Part Time Job + FIRST = Hard to maintain a decent GPA :frowning:

Late design + not debugged code :Whistle: = maniac regionals

Really great robot with all bugs worked out + bad alliance pairings = no fun

Few things I learnt:

Mentor + stroke = team in chaos;

Students + wrong information = dangerous situation;

Students + Stubborn = bad impression on mentors;

Good friends + Competitions = FUN;

I learnt more than what words can express just being around FIRST, team 25, and especially other teams. I feel blessed. Thank you all:)

Escalators + scouting checks in between each match = Tired Becca

Hottub jets + sore calves = content

deck of cards + 8 random people I don’t know + security guards in the Omni = long lasting friendships

me+awards alone on a table=future klepto

Woody + metal sheer= busted open thumb

skinny dipping dare + woody= not good

bus sharing with rival team= bad
bus sharing with rival team + iPod + PowerBook + DVDs= GOOD

peachcobler= really frikin good!!! :smiley: :smiley:

VIP Pass + Chris Leary from TechTV= fun

as useful as duct tape is, there are some alternatives… yeat some applications truely NEED duct tape.

pneumatic tires sometimes bounce in the way you want them to, and sometimes dont… and become a painful memory to some innocent builders.

always have your main breaker switch in an easily accessible location on the robot during testing… especially when testing an autonomous program that a blind programmer made… sometimes things dont work out as planned and one of us has to run around in circles around a 130 lbs robot spinning at full speed with a VERY dangerous 6 foot arm swinging around in order to reach into the robot to switch it off.
oh, and when its a four wheel drive robot, its even harder to stop the robot for if it was 2 wheel drive, you just need to tip it onto its casters.
